899 Dash Melting...

  1. Alright guys,

Basically I noticed that the dash was melting as you can see in the photo. My bike has the DP screen fitted by Ducati and I just assumed that the curvature was causing excess heat on the dash and causing it to melt and when I emailed my dealer about it that's what they confirmed as well.

My question is basically what's people's advice for the situation? I was going to ask for a new surround since mine is clearly damaged by a part that they fitted and knew could cause this. I don't think that sounds unreasonable?

Was also wondering if this has happened to anyone else and did they manage to solve it somehow?

    Thanks,

    Dan

  2. I can't see the phot in the office but it sounds reasonable that they will sort everything out to make it good again. Ducati are usually pretty good for this sort of thing.

  3. Is it a double bubble screen?

  4. Only ever heard of one other 899 melting, baron von grumbles melted ,if memory serves me well he had new dash and I think his was a zero gravity screen.

  5. Christ, imagine parking it up whilst having lunch and coming back to it on fire.
Odds on it wouldn't happen in the UK with our shite weather but you never know.

  6. Yeah, but this only happened in 10-12 degree conditions. Worried to leave it anywhere if it got into the 20's this summer!

  7. Never happen over lunch... Read the articles about the 'Walkie Talkie' building in London then. The curvature of the buildings windows caused the sunlight to focus on cars parked in Cheapside (funny enough, by Monument - Pudding Lane). From what I heard it full on melted a van and a jag!

  8. Just the other day my brother wanted to make nice back ground for his eBay pictures in our garden.
He chose a 2.4 by 1.2 flexible mirrored sheet, which he bent into a curve.
He placed a motorcycle seat in the middle and went to get his camera..the seat was on fire when he returned!
The next item to be photographed was a second hand petrol tank...complete with at least 3litres of fuel!

  9. This you and your brother? [IMG]

  10. It melted a new XJ just after launch - it was one of our manufactured parts it melted, had an HDT well over 120 degrees! They blamed us initially until I went to see the car and loads of other parts had melted too :D

  12. Yes, it was my proper job, not my hobby :D

  13. Well the dealer has taken the photo and passed it on for a warranty claim so we'll see what happens. :)

Don't know how to stop it happening again though, only thing I can think of is to put something on the screen to block the sun?

  14. A different screen ?

  15. Thanks, Weeksy, but I don't really fancy changing the screen back to a normal height one to be honest. I was just thinking a strip of vinyl over the lower portion to stop the sun or something?

  16. try this ;-)

  17. Haha, they not have anything stronger than an SPF 50?! :)

  18. Ive painted the bottom of my corse screen and had vinyl applied to another one. Both seem to do the trick and haven't had any problems.
