Decided it's time for a top box and fancy the Givi TRK52N Trekker, which is one of their Monokey range. But, all I can find on the adapter plates are ones with additional support arms. However, I have fitted the R&G tail tidy, which pulls the indicators high up near the rear light and looks like the arms and indicators will clash? Has anyone fitted a Monokey box, just by bolting the adapter plate to the rear hand grab bolt positions - if so does it work ok and have you any pictures?
I have a Palmer Products rack fitted to my Multi with a universal top box fitted which could maybe fit your option Ducati MS1200 - Palmer Products
Cheers - is that the Tail Rack (rather than the Luggage Rack with the turned up edges). Also is that similar to the SW-Motech one (seems about half the price)? Do you have any pictures of the install?
Yes it is the tail rack which is very similar to SW Motech's but with more fixing holee options & cheaper. Do you want a picture of the rack or with topbox fitted? I'm getting ready to go to Europe (6 Countries) 1st thing Sunday morning for 6 days so am loading her up soon!
Nice one - did similar a month or so back. Picture of it loaded up please - can't quite make out what the supports are for and if not having them causes any problems?
Have you had a look at the pdf document on Givi's web site as it shows a breakdown of all the rack components. For some reason Givi have an additional bracket that raises the plate so hey feel that the support arm's are also necessary. I guess this is incase you carry heavy items in a topbox. I don't see why you couldn't get a PP rack & then mount the Givi plate direct on to it which would do away with the support arms/brackets etc . Here are the images of mine.
Cheers both - Talking with guys in local Givi dealer, they reckon the arms are to counter the downforce from wind pressure, rather than the weight in the box (makes sense I suppose?), but Anthill, I am guessing that you haven't encountered any problems with your install?
No nsm3 it's been OK so far. I don't think that the Ducati top box option has the supports so guess they don't see it as a concern.
Went for the SW plate in the end as I could order everything from one supplier - big thumbs up to "Motorcycles and Parts". It is a nice solid install although I have had to solve a slight rattle from the plate/box lock mechanism by placing a car washing sponge under the box as you drop it on. The Trekker 52l box is absolutely mahoosive and I'm not too sure about the looks because of it - probably should have gone for a 46l maximum, but at least it will be useful? I am also a little concerned by the overhang, considering it has no lower supports, but then my Ortlieb used to hang "way out the back" (well heavy!) and hasn't caused me any problems, so lets see as I'm hoping to test it out this weekend with a couple of days in Wales?
What I want is that topbox at about half those dimensions (That's what has stopped me buying one) I really want a small (1 lid) box that looks neat and adventure style. The trouble is most of them are massive.
I went with SW Motech quick lock for that very reason. The rack is small and discreet, so it doesn't look awful when no box is fitted, and I have one adapter plate for Monokey when I need a lot of storage and another for monolock when I just want a small box.
I fitted the Ducati top box plate, it has support arms and IMHO looks neater that the Givi alternative. For everyday use I have a Givi 36ltr monokey box and for touring I use the Trekker TRK46N (only because I have square shaped inner bags left over from when I had a 1200gs). I was given 3 spare luggage barrels when I bought the bike and they fitted neatly into both boxes.
