Over the winter i have cleaned and serviced the carbs, replaced the fuel filter in the tank, sorted belts and put in a new clutch. Got the bike started today and have a strange additional noise coming from the fuel pump or maybe not? It sounds to be under the tank? There is the normal 'whir' of the pump with the ignition on but there is also a fast clicking grinding noise too. It is intermittent - is there a fuel pump relay that could be making such a noise? Bike runs ok! Any ideas appreciated Kevin
I would lift up the tank and have a listen to the pump before starting engine to see if you can isolate the source of the additional noise better.
I fitted an inline switch (hidden) so I could cut the pump for either testing other electrics or as a partial security measure.......(when 'off', full float bowls will do about 1 to 1.5miles)
Thank you for your responses, i like the idea of a switch. I had another listen to this tonight, as i was listening i could hear bubbles in the tank. I think it may have been air in the pipes. As a after a few minutes there was just the normal sound of the pipe running - thank you all for your input and ideas! Hoping the sun will be out over the weekend!
'Bubbles' in the tank is the fuel return flow from the Y connector in the fuel lines....all normal....
