guys i want to make my track bike road legal again just for road test purposes, am i right in thinking i just need a horn, rear reflector and put the number plate back on for an mot?? cheers
Try this address, it's the MoT testers hand book. As a general rule, if it's fitted it has to work. If it is not fitted then it cannot be tested. Horn, number plate and road legal tyres definitely a must but as to a reflector, some say yes and others say not required. Don't call it a day time MoT as it doesn't exist. Your bike will only be legal during daylight hours if you have no lights. If you have holes in the fairings for lights, a tester might insist that lights should be fitted. Seems to be a grey area looking at this MCN link: Here's A Daytime MOT Question... | Motorcycle News Forum | MCN I had a brake light, speedo, horn and kill switch after asking a local bike shop - but that was many years ago. Best asking whichever MOT station you intend taking it to. The one who gave me the advice said 'but don't bring it here'
As above, I would pop in, in person, and have a chat with your local MOT bloke to see what he says. I have found it varies a lot from one MOT station to another as to what they regard a "daylight mot" should be. On my R1, I used to have race bodywork, no indicators, no headlamp, but had brake light/rear reflector/horn/number plate etc. Some MOT places used to pass it no problem. One place once said that because it had the light/indicator switch still on the handle bar that they should work and therefore they couldnt issue a daylight only mot unless i removed the switches. One place said as long as i had a working brake light, a horn & number plate etc then that was fine. My latest garage says I dont even need a brake light (if I remember correctly when i spoke to him last). As it is, ive stuck all the road bits back on the R1 atm so shouldnt have any probems with its MOT this year!
