Help!

  1. I bought a 1 year old 899 last weekend and it was delivered today. However, I can't get it to start. I'm not sure if it's a flat battery or an immobiliser problem. I put it on trickle charge and it's currently showing 12.5 volts. What should it be to start it? When I turn the key the starting sequence occurs but when I press the start button there is a repeated clicking sound and red lights at top of the dash flash. It's got a data tool alarm/immobiliser.
    Help!

  2. It's ok, it was the battery. It just started, got the full akrapovic system it's LOUD!!!!

  3. Sounds to me like there isn't sufficient current to engage starter- hence the clicking sound from the starter relay.
Could be loose battery connections or knackered or insufficiently charged battery.

  4. I year old and it won't start because of the battery...............

Says a helluva lot about today's motorcycles dunnit?

  5. It's got a bike trac system which was sending alerts to previous owner whilst in transit and had drained the battery. I did 60 miles this evening, now it's all ok

  6. keep it on trickle charger, if your new to big twins then be aware they don't like trying to start on low battery as it can kill the sprag clutch. enjoy your beautiful road bike. :upyeah:

  7. Thanks! Luckily the battery is easy to access. It is my first twin so I've got a lot to learn. I can see this forum will be invaluable. It's going to be fun!!

  8. it is good craic lol. the ducati takes some getting used to but if you take the time to bond you will love it, give it a chance. also when you first go out be aware you will be going faster than you think, they are deceptive .if you look after them there isn't much to fear, look upon it as a hobby lol.I wouldn't want a four cylinder bike ( except a v4 ) now and love the characteristics of the v2.

  9. Saying 'keep it on trickle changer' is all very well whilst you're at home. If you are touring away from home you really need the bike to start but will probably not have trickle charging available. Bear in mind that the clapped out state of your battery, which has been disguised by the trickle charging, may thus manifest itself only while you're away. You might be better off going easy on the trickling!
