Just a word of warning folks, if you are tempted to fit a Zumo 590 with tyre pressure monitors, BEWARE, the monitors do not clear the brake callipers front and rear on the DVT as I have just found out. On a positive note the pressure monitors work very well letting you know you have a flat tyre, even 2 at one time. Hey-ho wheels off time and two new valves to be fitted for me then. Not bad with only 15 miles on the clock.
I have not yet fitted tyre pressure monitors to the DVT, because the senders on the valve stems would foul the brake calipers as the OP says. In due course I will re-angle the valve stems so the senders will clear. As you well know, the reason for having them is because if a tyre starts to lose pressure I want to know about it as soon as possible, and preferably before it starts to affect the handling noticeably. And because I find it reassuring to check the pressures on every ride, but can't be bothered with using a manual pressure gauge every time (who can?). Ducati ought to have included tyre pressure monitoring as standard on the Multi, but sadly they didn't so we have to make our own arrangements.
The front can be angled to accommodate the sender but the rear will have to be replaced with a shorter valve or an angled one. + 1 for Ducati fitting as standard and it is nice to know you are losing pressure, especially a slow puncture where you can take action before the handling is affected. Alternatively get a gauge and check them every trip.
I note that TYREPAL are out of stock of TPMS sets for bikes at the moment. Pity. http://www.tyrepal.co.uk/
Note they did also on my 2010S model. Also I had to fit angled tyre valves to my PP (uprated from Callipers m4). Surely if you fit something like this you test the clearance before?
Surely you would think so, at least spin the wheel FFS. It never crossed my mind that changing the dust caps would require any further checks, oh well live and learn.
Holy shit talk about going techno mad. I just use my thumb and if it feels soft I check the tyre for holes, check the pressure and stick more air in. If you cant tell your tyre has gone soft while your riding you've got your bike set up wrong.
Nope. I think this is an acceptable bit of tech. I use them on all my vehicles (including the spare tyre). If you are driving over many different surfaces (like the roads in London), down the middle (white line markings, dirt, beer cans, bits of cars) then you may not notice a slow rear puncture. And as @Pete1950 rightly says who actually checks the pressures BEFORE EVERY ride (a Police instructor perhaps)? Having it on the display just reminds me that I need to let the back down a bit and pump up the front a little.
Whatever the cold pressures are set to, a few miles of spirited riding will get them up 4 or 5 psi just from temperature effects, while slow stretches or rain will drop them down again. A slow puncture leading to a couple of psi pressure drop is not easy to distinguish. Unless you have TPMS installed, of course.
I had a gs with all that info on it, never checked it once tbh, kicked the tyres had a feel all seems ok let's rock. Thing is, if you had a slow puncher you would Defoe notice the difference in the bikes handling, if your tyre was deflating however slow it was the bike would not start sounding an alarm, blue lights and all YOU HAVE LOST 5 PSI FFS you would have to go and look to see if you have lost any pressure I think some tech is better than others, but some times it's better to have that human touch if you know what I mean
And also to add.. Have you considered the wheel balance with theses thingy- me- bobs on your valves ???
err... might have been ....who wants to know? do I owe them money? I'm guessing you were there? I didn't see a DVT there today, saw one yesterday with a few goodies on it but couldn't work out who owned it.
Ah then yes it was me, I'm guessing you were watching me point and chat to my m8 while we looked over it. you had a clip for a tank bag fitted, what make was it (sorry to hijack the thread) How was the tyre pressure when you got home? ;-)
Which brake Callipers ? Multi has two models and two different brake Callipers I wish you should have write your opinion a little bit more clear!
