I just bought a new hyper and it's slipping neutral in between 5th and 6th. Is this normal for this gearbox?
Mines a 2014 with no problems, however I am borrowing a Hyperstrada, and that gear box occasional hits false neutrals between 5 & 6, plus it's near impossible to locate neutral when bike is at a standstill, hopefully it will get better with age, but 1400 miles later not much improvement so far.
Both my hypermotards had the 5th to 6th issue....(1100s and 1100evo) Chris at Louigi said that while it wasn't a problem it was a curable problem if you had to strip the engine for any other reason...both mine were low miles...the 1100s about 2k and the evo about 7k - you just had to be "assertive" with that particular gear change...
Its a different engine but my SF has had a strip-down but it still needs a positive touch (more between 4th and 5th than 5th and 6th) to avoid neutrals. I don't consider it a false neutral. To me, that is when you feel a gear has been positively selected but no drive results. On mine its more a case of half-hearted dabs leaving the gearbox stranded between cogs, which I think is rider error. It only occurs on down changes. Adjusting the gear shifter down a notch helps.
Mine did on the first few rides, Not now Im more positive with the gearbox and have no problems at all. I has been spoiled with the Aprilia quick shifter and got lazy with my gear changes. I did fiddle a bit with lever positions to find optimum set up.
