Hi, I know that I've posted this elsewhere, but I thought that I'd try here as well. I'm going on a track day at Donnington in May. I'll be on my Multi 1200 in the novice group. The bike has Pilot Road 3s fitted which I love, but do you think they'll be ok?
Should be fine, especially for the novice group. I remember reading a review in one of the mags when they were fresh out, he gave them some serious stick round several track days on a ZX10R. After 1800 miles and 3 hard trackdays, they looked like they'd been given a good going over, but were definitely still good to go.
Are they the OE fitment on the Multi? If so, the Bike Mag team were using it at Brands shortly after launch and I happened to be there. They were knee down and ripping it up in the fast group. No problems at all with them on the track. Enjoy it!
this was my rear on my 2009 r1 after a donnington track day last year, plus it had already done around 6k miles including a trip to spain. i know its a pilot road 2 but would hope the 3's are better i did fit a pr3 eventually but sold the r1 for my duc so didnt rack many miles up on the pr3. ( first ever track day though)
My only concern with the PR3's on track would be the overheating of the front if it's dry. The tread blocks are pretty "loose" because of the way they are cut hence why they are so good in the wet. I'd keep an eye on them and see how they fare..
I'm with Nelly on this. The way the tyre is made the tyre must generate a lot of heat and they are not really made for track use unless it's raining. I have a friend who used PR2's on a trackday on his Fireblade and they let go. The tyre guy at the circuit reckoned they had overheated. It was at Donny too. It's a fast track. Personally i wouldn't chance it on a 150bhp bike, £10k+ bike if it's a warm day but each to their own.
i once watched a review on the pr3's it was a 2011 zx10 being thrashed to see if he could get the traction control to kick in and it wouldnt.
Hello, They will be more than good enough and they seem to be good in the wet so you are covered in for all conditions. What also seems important, especially for novice group is that you can get heat into them quickly. Rgds Greg
