Here's an R1 doing 173.2mph on straight ridden by my mate Tom, he is a bit of a dimwit sometimes :Hilarious: If you don't need the front wheel on the floor at that speed I think it might qualify
What for you constitutes a superbike? But when? At what period of history? In 1971 the superbikes then available (all 750s) comprised: Norton Commando, Triumph Trident, BSA Rocket 3, BMW R75/5, MV Agusta 750S, Moto-Guzzi V7 Sport, Laverda 750 twin, Ducati 750GT, Honda CB750, Harley-Davidson XR750. In 2015 they comprise 1000cc 4-cyl bikes from Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, BMW, Aprilia, MV Agusta, and the 1200 Ducati Pani. The landscape has changed a lot in 45 years!
A superbike to me is simply a bike that's super.....I think my hypermotard is super;therefore it is a 'super' bike Sorry.....I don't think the drugs have fully worn off yet :Facepalm_O
a superbike to me is some thing that was built for racing , is uncomfortable to ride on the road, has a crap steering lock, no storage for my gloves or wallet, cost a small fortune to fix when they go wrong, scares the pants off me when i give it the beans, crap fuel range and is a complete pig to ride under 150mph, oh wait a minute ive just described my 1198. But on the other hand they are mentally good fun and i wouldnt be without it.
A super bike is a special bike Of its era It is normally known as being super because everyone on last years bike or later can't catch it! but super bikes are made and built to be stronger and faster So really a super bike can only be measured by date and time of manufacture in comparison to others
