Warning, Strange Bidding On Some Ducati Parts Auctions On Ebay

Discussion in 'Online Retailer reviews' started by Dirty, Jun 19, 2015.

  1. i must admit i do see where dirty is coming from, when i was looking for a house i found one for 160k,i put in an offer in and it was excepted ! a day later i had a phone call call saying my offer had been bettered by an unknown buyer who wanted to pay cash (sounded dodgy), i said no i cant afford anymore so i wrote that one off, again the day after i got another phone call saying the cash buyer had pulled out but did i want to match his offer ?? i pretty much told um to fuck off and not waste my time, i put in a cheaper offer but not excepted. The house is still on the market! does make me wonder if the estate agent was "bidding" higher than me to see if i would raise my offer.l

  2. Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience

  3. Even if you see an item you want and decide to bid for it, you can simply bid a sum which is more than other bidders, in the hope that you will pay that sum. You are not obliged to put in a "secret maximum bid" for a much higher figure in the hope that you will not have to pay that much. It's every buyer's choice.

I think it's going too far to say that if maximum bids can be ascertained, that means it is not an auction. As you rightly say, there are many forms of auction which follow a variety of rules and procedures. EBay is what it is - if you don't like it, don't go there.
    Other sites are available!

  4. No, that's acceptable behaviour on the part of the estate agent.
Anyone is allowed to do anything whatsoever to get your money off you. The only control is what you are willing to pay!

  5. fair enough but my offer was all i was willing to pay, just seemed dodgy that they had a mystery cash buyer.

  6. No, it's illegal to do that, whether at Christies, Coys or on eBay

No but your contention that nothing untoward happened in the bidding implied if it happened to you you wouldn't mind, which would point to you being a bit simple imo, hence the magic beans! They are very cheap, £1 start price :)

I didn't say the auction was fraudulent, just that N***t's bid was, try and keep up.

As an aside I answered your question on whether it was illegal to act like that in an auction. It is yet it doesn't appear to matter to you.

  7. Unless there is a clear indication that your secret maximum bid is not secret, anyone using the maximum bid facility is being duped.

It is not too far to say that the ascending bid nature of the eBay auction mechanism is utterly undermined by open "secret maximum" bids. In that sense, it is no longer the auction it portrays itself to be.

In any event, I don't like the auction system on eBay these days and I don't use it. But thanks for the tip!

  9. Many months ago there was a discussion about obsolete copyright laws and their applicability in the modern world; I adopted a highly moral position, as I recall. It is an amusing wind-up for you to imply the opposite. We could go through the discussion again if you really want to, at risk of boring everybody to death.

  13. @Pete1950 it doesn't matter what you or the op think. You have your views,he has his. Surely the only view that matters here is that of ebay, and they say that the sellers actions contravene their rules.

  14. I think you just have to accept shill bidding goes on a lot on ebay and get over it to be honest or shop somewhere else.Part of the problem is the very expensive fees related to setting reserve on auctions. So any seller with half a brain soon realises its cheaper to just bump the price up to what they find acceptable and if no go then relist.

A good example is I recently bid on a nice pair of new shoes.Got outbid.Bastard.Surprise surprise and to my delight seller has infact been shill bidding or maybe buyer let them down but I doubt it.So I get a second chance to buy the item at the price I had already bid only my max.

End result seller got a better deal than giving them away for nothing and I got a 895 euro pair of shoes for £150 plus £10 post.He even made a bit on the post but im not arsed at it arrived in two days and I sent direct paypal payment to save him fees.

If I don't like the shill bidding I could have always walked into a Lanvin store and paid full price lmfao instead of bidding on fleabay.

  18. Is it illegal to use unused / discontinued logos, say for instance an old 1950's Ducati logo? Or an old log from a company / brand that is no longer trading or dissolved. :)

  19. Lol I don't think even the best shoe makers in the world can make clogs look good eh exige and those are particularly bright. My eyes.

Ive won two pairs of top quality high end shoes on fleabay lately. All auctions were shill bid sellers but saved a absolute fortune so seriously who gives a fuck.I would have spent more going to my local shopping centre and buying one pair of grensons.

As for ducati parts 90 euro seems pretty reasonable to me for a aftermarket pressure plate.60 sounds like seller would be giving them away. They gotta eat.How much is a ducati performance item from official ducati dealers.

  20. There's registered trade marks, there's patents, and there's copyright material. The legal regimes which apply to the different types of intellectual property vary, and also differ in different countries and change over time. Sometimes the legal framework is overtaken by technological developments but fails to get updated into a realistic form.

When you say "logo", perhaps you mean a registered trade mark. If so, well a TM either belongs to somebody (who can restrain other people from using it without permission) or it doesn't.
