Using a iPhone tiltmeter I measured my lean angle when parked on the side stand as 18 degrees from vertical. Not sure how that measures up with a) a new machine b) anyone elses If you have the time and the inclination (pun intended) check yours out. If you don't have a app try Pythagoras, A2 x B2 = C2 for those of you who have forgotten CSE maths
er - I don't fink so you could use Tan Ø = Opposite/Adjacent sides and as a bit of trivia - Pythagoras nicked it!
If you start with Pythagoras or his Egyptian forefathers you can proceed to calculating the angle with the following Mnemonic. Silly Old Harris Caught A Herring Trawling Off Amsterdam Not to be distracted from the maths club, has it gone an excessive lean, or not ? i have never sat or climbed aboard with the machine rested on its side stand, something a friend does as a matter of course on his Yamaha Super Tenere
I can’t be bothered doing the maths, but yes mine leans further than I expected, so much so that the first time I put it on the side stand on a slight camber I thought it was going to drop! Consequently I panicked and strained my wrist trying to keep it upright! (oh jeez! I'm not sure I should say that! ) Certainly leans further than my 1098 did!
15 degree lean with my old and possibly bent stand but a decent bolt and the whole thing doesn't have much play. I should add, I've got an r&g foot thingy with a small insert, which I estimate puts the bottom of the stand about 4mm higher. It's still too much though, I'd be happier at 12 degrees
How much a MTS leans on the sidestand must depend partly on how much pre-load is set on the rear suspension, plus how much luggage is on board (if any) and how much petrol in the tank. It will not be a fixed figure, surely?
my 15 degrees was with normal mode ie. rider with no bags and in touring mode, no luggage and full of fuel
