Seat Removal - Have No Keys!

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by dupcharl, May 25, 2015.

  1. Hi, I obtained a 2013 Monster 1100 EVO, accident damaged with no keys, and need to remove the seat to get to charge the battery as well as get to removing the ignition to have a key cut and programmed.
Any help please with removing the seat with no key?
Tried to lift the seat on the side to get my hand in there, but not sure what to feel for?
    Thanks,
    Charl

  2. where does the key locate ? ie is there a cable leading up to a latch you can reach ?

  3. The old ones had a cable which I think ran around the rear of the subframe and could be rewched and pulled by hand

  4. Thanks for your replies. It is very difficult to get your hand under the seat and identify the correct cable. The tail light cable as well as the cable for the electric motor for the exhaust valve runs underneath there as well. I cannot locate the latch though.
Have gone on the local Cape Town Ducati Facebook page and contacted someone with a similar bike to ask if I can meet him to take some photos of what it looks like under the seat so I can make a device to open mine. Hopefully they will reply.
If I get it open I will post a photograph of where the latch is located on the 1100 EVO and what I used to open it.

  5. DONE! You need 2x5 mm and 1x4mm allen keys. I shortened the short side of a 5mm allen key to about 10mm long. Put hand under the seat with the shortened allen key to hold the bolts in position and then someone else loosened the 4 special bolts from underneath the seat with the other 5mm allen key holding the Mudflap (on drawing 023).
There are also 4 other smaller bolts to loosen underneath the Mudflap with a 4mm allen key. Mudflap will come out and drop to the bottom. (In total 8 bolts to be removed)
It is then possible to get to the catch and move it to take the seat off.
Once the seat is off, you can see that it would not have been possible to get to the cable to pull if the seat was still on.
You must remove the Mudflap to get to the seat catch if you have no keys for the bike.
I can now strip the rest of the tank and tank covers to get to the battery to charge it.
    Thanks for your contributions!
    Charl
