Hey, Been a while since i posted on here! I had an 848Evo which i sold for a Daytona 675R and I love, but I am torn because i miss the twin torque even though I enjoy the noise the triple makes! I am riding the 899 on Saturday just to see how it compares to me 848, and also with a view that if i like it I'll consider a switch back in winter maybe if they have a Termig deal on. Anyone think that they will update the 899 shape so it matches the 1299? I kinda do think they will this winter, what other changes do you all think there might be?
If changes are going to be made it will be for the my16.When you test ride it dont expect loads of low down torque, you need to keep your revs above 8k and the 899 rewards, ride it like a 848 and you will be disappointed.
Lack of midrange seems to be the general gripe from Ducati riders, not so much from people moving from il4's,i have got used to the 899 and i like the docile motor in the lower rev range, very easy to ride in the 30/40/50 mph zones, almost sports tourer like,if getting a wriggle on keep your upshifts @ 9/10k
I am expecting it to feel softer down the bottom of the revs, the 848 Evo had no midrange if you speak to the 848 Purists! TBH I think I would be happy if the heat was more manageable than the 848 and the steering quicker and more like a 'normal bike' as i did find the 848 Slow to steer. Final thing i am looking for is a suspension set up which is much more suitable to the roads. My 848 had a rear shock with 5mm of static sag from the factory and the suspension guy could barely get it past 10mm, it was just so stiff! Am I going to be disappointed? i have ridden an 1199s so I know to expect a completely different bike to the 848/1098 series.
IMO you wint be disappointed. The 899 has sharper handling and is more agile than the 848. If you work the gears right you'll have loads of grunt from a standing start through to warp speed
Fair enough, thanks, tbh I can't really remember exactly want the 848 was like, i am sure a similar feel will come back to me on Saturday, if it's Dry!
i just had a go on a mates 899 from an 1198 really did have to rev it but bloody good fun, you can ride um flat out if you want to. id be very tempted when i down size to go the 899 route.
Everyone talks about downsizing, and it being the 'little one' but it's a 148HP twin, honestly it's ridiculous!
a gsxr 750 is 148bhp and feels alot faster than the 899 untill you get the duc revving, trust me going from an 1198 to an 899 it feels little.
I went from 848 to 899, it's like a jap bike (not in a bad way) compared to the 848. Much easier to get on with. I'd say it's probably a less extreme riding position compared to the 675R (nearly had one instead of the 899..) Fit termis, keep revs up, still feels like a proper Ducati!
Hey Phil, you know all my thoughts on the switch from 675R to 899 as i did it. I like the 899 waaaayy better than the 848 (848 was bike i coveted for ages, rode it, hated it, got the 675R). Enjoy it. Just make sure to put it in race mode. Don't worry about the brakes feeling wooden compared to the 675R. I just changed pads to Brembo SC's and complete fluid change and they are now great.
Ha, just been reading through your living with thread on the err other forum! TBH mate my brakes are complete crap on my 675, no idea why, it's had the fluid changed and they have been checked for air twice, they just have a really squishy feel, so I'm not exactly spoilt atm. The 848 did have phenomenal brakes though, really serious amounts of power, maybe even at the expense of feel. How do you put it in Race mode? I am sure I will figure it out but I am also interested in playing with the engine braking to feel the difference. I will see where I am with my 675 value wise towards Christmas and go from there I think, but in the meantime it will be at least 2 test rides on the 899 as I don't want to make the wrong decision. Stupidly I am gagging to ride my 675 tomorrow to work, I still love it.
Push this button in to cycle through them then hold it for 2 seconds to select. Need to be off brakes and throttle. EBC will be on 1 in all modes. You will struggle to tell difference between 1 and 3 unless you are really shifting and at high revs. I like it on 1. Tried 3 and its similar to a triple but I like the extra engine braking now I'm used to it.
You swapped a 848 for a 675 really u must be insane dude tbh I pick up my 899 next week you can't compare it to a 848 they are totally different .lack of mid range torq on 899 not really the 899 is rapid is 170mph to slow for you ? I won't see many passing me lol
Did u even read my original post or any of the ones following? Including the one where I commented on how ridiculous it is that people call it the 'baby' at 148bhp? Thanks to BDTD I'll have a play on Saturday.
y yes mate i read your post i gave u a thumbs up on the 148 quote my comments were just replys to the whole post if you get the termigoni slipons fitted it will free all range power i have rode both with and without and up to september ducati are doing £750 towards performance parts so u get them half price
I had a 2nd test ride on the 899 yesterday. I was supposed to be out on the DVT Multi but the previous tester was late getting back. You can't fault the 899 as a pure fun bike to ride. I don't think I have ever felt so comfortable on a test bike and able to push it straight from the off. Most agile bike i think I have ever ridden but still with loads of stability. Just such a great ride and bikes should all be about fun. Can't ignore the fact that it looks like a new version will be out come the end of the year though.
The fact is that it LOOKS LIKE there will be a new one out. Not that there WILL be a new one out - ie the fact is only that there is speculation. I think the post makes that clear.
