Having seen yet another person quote the "i don't ride in winter" lark. Someone far more intelligent than me needs to invent a bike storage device that is filled with an inert gas such as Co2. This stops the oxygen attacking ones pride & joy & keeps the machine in pristine condition. Ready for the value on the bottle to be closed off & envelope unzipped. This could also be used to euthanasia ones self if the predilection takes one over the proverbial edge' ..my two pence This could be my moment of clarity for the whole of july
VCIs or Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors are quite interesting and have a wide variety of uses. The active ingredient can be incorporated into a plastic bag, sheet of paper etc and release a volatile compound that coats metal at the molecular level to provide an invisible barrier to corrosion. BMW use VCI bags to protect crankshafts after manufacture and before assembly. Previously the crankshaft was covered in grease after manufacture which then had to be cleaned off prior to assembly, a process which generated a lot of waste. Now they just take the spotless crankshaft out of the bag and assemble it.
I just wanted to reply in this again because it's unusual to see a 1000 thread in a sea of "my 1200 doesn't work properly " in the strada section :tearsofjoy:
