St2 Immobiliser/alarm Problem...

  1. Hello All,
I've read through some similar posts on this subject, but I'm still getting nowhere, so here goes.

I have a 2001 ST2 with a Ducati alarm system, which I never use. Sometimes when I go to start the bike it takes a couple of presses of the key fob button before the immobiliser is disabled, but now nothing. I have replaced the battery in said fob, no difference. All that happens is that with repeated presses of the fob button the alarm arms itself and goes off. The only way in which I can start the bike at the moment is by using the 'emergency disarming confidential code'. I don't have a red key.

I should add that I did wash the bike recently, but I have had the fairing off completely and have been checking any connections that I can, no evidence of water ingress or corrosion. I have also followed the instructions to re-align the remote key, but again there's no indication that this has been successful. I was wondering if the key fob could be at fault?

Any help very gratefully received, at my wits end.

  2. Is this the Ducati immobiliser or a dealer-fitted alarm like a Datatool System 3? I removed the alarm system completely from my ST4s as it was thoroughly annoying.

  3. Thanks for the response. It is a Ducati system. Looks as though I'll have to remove it, but that's fine. Is it true that the ECU has to be re programmed at vast expense?

  4. If you are talking about immo in your ECU, then the answer is it does not have an immo in the ECU.

  5. Sorry, don't understand. If I simply remove the offending alarm system, will the bike start? I was under the impression that the ECU would have to have something done to it if the alarm and immobiliser are removed. Sorry if I'm appearing a bit thick, I'm just a mere plumber...

  6. The ST2 uses the IAW16M ECU. There is no immo system in this ECU. Remove the alarm, bridge any broken circuits and you should be up and running.

  7. Thank you very much, will do.

  8. Thanks very much for your help. I was a bit confused as to what I actually had, removed the alarm system and bingo, much relief.

    Thanks once again.
