I have a 750s, 2002, I had the bike six months but looking through the service history it's been a while since the cam belts were changed. Any ideas on what the cost will be to get them changed. Thanks.
Yup, get yer belts from @Exige Easy enough to do yourself, just follow Chris Kelley's California Cycleworks/ExactFit video on U tube. While you're at it, get Exige to send you a cable kit to allow your battery to start the motor properly. These weren't available when I had a 750SS and I never felt fully confident that it would actually start, I always had my fingers mentally crossed. I have a cable kit on the 999 I have now and it starts beautifully.
Mike62 ive just bought a set of belts from Exige, super service from him the belts are first class, far cheaper than the genuine ducati ones. They are easy enough to fit as well.
I wish in had the ability to do the job myself, looks like I will have to find someone with the know how. Thanks for the post.
It really isn't that difficult. You just need to be well prepped with everything you are going to need and how to go about it. Watch Chris Kelley's ExactFit online video several times until you get a good grasp of how to proceed. Then, if necessary, use a laptop or iPad to help you as you go or take written notes. If there's any part you're not sure about, there's plenty of advice available on here.
Thanks, I will watch the video and see if it inspires or scares the hell out of me. I've got no one local to me if I get stuck, I think that's what bothers me. I've not done any mechanics at all and this is my first bike. Thanks again.
All the Chris Kelly video's are here if you scroll down www.exactuk.com but if you have never spannered before I would advise you seek help as you suggested
Your profile saysLiverpool. Surely there must be a forum member near you if you should get really stuck. Not that there's any reason why you should.
You've got a 2 valve 750. If I can do a 4 valve belt change with no problems, I'm sure you can manage a 2 valve, which is reckoned to be twice as easy. Get yourself a Haynes manual and get stuck in. You'll enjoy it.
I did the belts on my 996 when I first got it in 2013. TBH they are due again in a few weeks time. Whilst im pretty good at spanering, id never attempted to do belts before either. I found it pretty easy. Just needed allen keys, a few minimal other tools, a bottle of tipex and "strings" app for my phone.
