1199 Running Really Hot..hi Temp

  1. OK,

So I picked up my new bike today for the second time from the dealers after my first pickup lasted an hour before I noticed the leaking fork seal (and it was off the road 3 weeks whilst they fixed it!!) I rode home at around 90 on the motorway and the temp varied between 95 - 110!! ....I came off the motorway and went through the forest to get on a few twisties and the temp was constantly in the hundreds... when I had to stop at lights it shot up to about 120 and then I got the HI TEMP warning flash up... this happened every time I had to stop and not even for a period of time... It also feels as if power disappears (and the exhaust note too) around 3-4k when it's hot (30-40mph) and it gets very lurchy... my old 999s used to get grumpy around 100-103 and do this but never ran this hot when shifting along.. I know Ducatis run hot but This can't be right surely??

I'm going to check coolant tomorrow but anyone got any ideas or similar experiences?

  2. Does seem a little hot to me, was out on mine yesterday just normal riding it was around 75 degrees went up in town and slow riding.
    Jess

  3. Clearly not right let them have it back!
Three weeks for fork seal..that's nuts..
Nice way to treat a customer..where did you get it from?

  4. Compared to mine I'd say it's pretty hot. Even thrashing it round a track all day in 20 degree weather I never saw over 95...

  5. Definitely not right. I've never seen a high temp warning on mine and it's been through 37+ degree weather in Italy. 110 when static in traffic is not unusual and 102 or more whilst moving through the traffic but it goes right down to 85-95 as soon as I get an open road.

  6. Low on coolant/air lock?? Are the fans working?
    Has to be something wrong...

  7. Thanks for the messages guys... think it's sorted now.... checked the coolant and..... reservoir completely bone f'ing dry.... so put about 1.5 litres of coolant/antifreeze in the rad and reservoir and just been out on it.. speeds of 70-90 it's now between 78-85, i took some proper crap busy residential roads for the acid test and it was anywhere between 90 and when stuck at 2 sets of lights in a row got to 104 (fans kicked in about 102 i think, but never rose above that despite about 20 minutes of n more than 30mph... and came down slowly once moving again (not dissimilar to my old 999s but that would get proper grumpy!) the panigale seem to compose itself a bit better when hot..

So fingers crossed it's all good.... I'm not one to bitch and moan but 12,500 for a bike with a blown fork seal and very little coolant from a dealer who (put it through the workshop) prior to me picking it up... MotoRapido it was... I'll use them until the 3 months warranty is up but after that I very much doubt it!

  8. I would be doing more than that mate! Low coolant and those sort of temps consistently could well have caused serious damage! This is simply not acceptable

  9. I'm going to call them tomorrow and demand they give it proper inspection, the problem is, now I've "sorted it as such" It's only my word and quite frankly my faith in them could not be lower...

  10. I keep rattling on about how happy I have been with my own local Dealership, Ducati Coventry, but I'm not kidding as they have been nothing but helpful and efficient whenever I have used them. Their workshop-foreman (hope I'm not giving him the wrong job-title ) is the man MCN have on their 'your questions answered' page regarding Ducatis.
I'm glad you traced your overheating problem down and were able to fix it yourself..... it's very satisfying when you can make a difference yourself, without having to resort to the experts ! Your supplying Dealership should hang their heads in shame for their failure to road-test your bike prior to sale. That simple task would have revealed all the issues you have suffered, you would be non the wiser that they had fixed any faults and would have had nothing but praise for them, rather than the contempt we all now hold them in.

  11. Well it's going back in tomorrow for a proper inspection, I'm going to leave it with them and ask they test ride it properly afterwards... I've had an unlucky experience, I'm sure many here can give them a glowing reference.... everyone gets a second chance and in this case a third chance... fingers crossed it's fine and I can experience the proper panigale experience rather than the up and down the dull M3 one I've had so far...
