1200 DVT Unlock Error

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by tallboy 88, Aug 5, 2015.

  1. Went to start the bike up after 2 weeks away at work, and it came up with an unlock error when the bars are clearly not locked as the steering moves freely from left to right. Any ideas? The manual says to just try a restart but I've tried it a few times with no joy.

  2. Sorry to hear that. What are the conditions now, will the bike not start? Does the solenoid throw the Pin in/out when commanded, or not work at all?
How about trying disconnect/reconnect the battery first?

  3. still getting an error message. The steering now won't lock and the bike won't start as its telling me the steering is locked. as for the pin its not moving. I tried starting it with the pin also but had no joy. Its looking like a phone call to ducati in the morning :(

  4. I had a look at the wiring diagram, hoping to underatnd the wiring around the lock solenoid, and associated steering lock proximity microswitches, but hey, they're not there, probably in the blank block 8(Hands free)...
The lock pin solenoid will have a position switch/sensor in it, maybe it's u/s. Unfortunately, as you say, sounds like a dealer trip.

  5. I would have thought it would be like the Diavel, which never caused me issues btw. what about the 'manual override' button (do you have to remove the cover in front of the fuel tank to get at it).
Please excuse my ignorance if I'm wrong here, still waiting for mine:(

  6. Mine did that when I collected it. They had to replace the whole hands free unit.

  7. just had the call this afternoon the hands free system needs replaced. Apparently its happening quite often.

  8. Same thing happened after 2 weeks holiday. Today, when I tried to unlock the bike, unlock error appeared. I called the dealer they said known issue. Ducati road side assist took the bike to the dealer.
    Lets see

  9. Had mine changed a few weeks ago but I never a problem with it. Received a recall letter and when test they said it needed changing.

  10. Local service said: they have managed to get the bike start; however ducati said: replace the handsfree unit.

  11. I had the same in my -2015 DVT. The hands free system needed replacement. It clearly is a problem in 2015 production as I was not the first one. They said that there is no such problem in -2016 and 2017 -models and they have changed something in the hands free system -unit(?). Are they right or has somebody experienced the problem in the newer models?

I have a 2017 dvt and I had the error message come up once when I can to unlock it, tried a second time and it worked ok, is this an early warning sign!!!!

This happened first time when I was releasing the lock. I didn't push the steering enough to release the pressure out of the locking pin. I got the error code put the steering unlocked as usual. The code remained but disappeared after 10 minutes of retrying. I decided not to use the steering lock. Now after two weeks I got the error code again without even having the steering locked. It just gave me the code and refused to start. Now it is in the shop waiting the unit to be replaced.

Was your experience something like my first incident?

Not really, the error code came up when I tried to unlock it, took the pressure off the locking pin and it unlocked, haven't seen the code come up since so it was either a warning about the pressure stopping the pin retracting or something more sinister, watch this space!!

  15. Well tried all. New key fob battery. Charged main battery to full. Tried to help pin in or out. WD40 sprayed at the pin. Nothing worked so it off to the dealer on Monday on a trailer. Not a happy bunny
