1200 Ignition Coil Stick Test

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by ibgarrow, Aug 4, 2015.

  1. Having whinged for some long while about jerky, snatchy, erratic running on a neutral throttle, I wondered whether it may be due (partly?) to a dicky ignition coil stick? Especially the front one which hangs in the spray. Is there a way of testing whether they both work effectively? On my car I can hook up and OBD interface and see this info. Any equivalent for my Multistrada? Or is it just a case of "unit replacement"?

  2. is it single or twin spark?

  3. Single (2011)

  4. Anyone got any ideas?

  5. Does it look like this?

I replaced it with a Honda CBR600RR 03-12 stick, they're almost the same but you'll need to swap the rubber bits over.

  6. You can check the resistance and see if it's the same on both the horizontal and vertical coil sticks. They should have a primary resistance between the two terminals at the top of about 1.4 ~ 1.5 ohms ish.
