There were a fair number of buildings dotted about, along with a few red flags and soldiers in full kit Its where my avtar was taken
I am lucky enough to live not far from Crickhowell so am spoilt with lovely roads on my door step [emoji4] Upper/lower Chapel, Beulah, Elan Valley and Crossgates to Newtown is great. Black Mountain was fun but the new 40 limit is a just stupid slow across there but not seen a camera yet. I really like the Cross Foxes, really good food, nice rooms and surrounded by awesome roads! Be very careful around Brecon for ZZR1400 unmarked bikes, so many deaths recently they are swarming the place and dishing out fines for small plates and dark visors.
Remember, many moons ago, going for a rideout with mates and we went across the Black Mountains from the Llandovery side, and lo and behold, the wonderful council had freshly chipped the fucking road, that was an interesting ride down the other side!! A definite 5p/50p moment...along with dodging the sheep!
Ah yes Jen the famous chipping roads Happened to me coming back from a run out Rhayader Turned by three cocks to take the A438 to find it had miles of chippings I nearly had a heart attack as I had a fear of chippings Watch out for the welsh chippings
Not just Wales either!!! They were around here in Derby and surroundings, doing the bloody country roads with them.....bastardSSSS!! I bloody hate it,the council have no consideration.
A few pics of the planned routes, probably a little zoomed out to see the roads but it works out at around 250 miles a day Day 1 is getting there via south wales Day 2 is seeing snowdonia, 2/3rds of the evo triangle and horseshoe pass Day 3 is heading home with a bit of a detour
Lots of good roads in Wales, busy this time of year tho. The road to Tregaron from Aberystwyth is great fun, as are the B roads out around toward Pontrhydfendigaid and Pont-rhyd-y-groes. You can make some nice loops taking the Devil's Bridge road too. As someone else mentioned the Abergwesyn pass is good fun (single track), though there's a low section near the Devil's Staircase that can flood in winter sometimes. Elan valley is always popular, but watch out for sheep and other bikers. It's bumpy and narrow in places though (like many roads in Wales to be fair!). If you take the road to visit the dams & have a couple of mates with you, you can re-create this image too (there is tarmac at least now ;-) http://blogs.llgc.org.uk/digido/files/2013/02/pba00695.jpg The main coastal A roads are always busy, the A44 likewise but is fun when quiet - watch out for sheep on the loose though. If you like remote nadgery roads (as I do!) there's the happy valley road from Aberdyfi to Machynlleth, The mountain road from Talybont, past the Nant-y-moch reservoir to Ponterwyd, the mountain road from Machynlleth to LLanidloes, another twisty one from Arthog to Dolgellau past Cregennen lakes, and more fun stuff between Llanuwchllyn (near Bala) over the tops to Dinas Mawddwy (or Llyn Vyrnwy - great cafe there). Talking of Bala, the A4212 is a good-un too, and brings you out onto the Trawsfynydd straight on the 470. Finally, if you're up near Ruthin (say hello to Rich & Pete in MotoR!) theres a nice route to Denbigh, then down toward Bylchau on the 543, then cut south on the B4501 past Llyn Brenig (there's a cafe by the lake Wave if you see a battle-scarred black Mutley out and about Cheers.
Depending on your timing I can heartilly recommend a pub called the Clytha Arms. If you look at your map you'll notice a B road going from Raglan to Abergavenny. The pub is on the right as you travel west, about 3 miles from the Raglan roundabout. Nice little road anyway and worth using as alternative to the A40 dual carriageway. Otherwise there's the cafe at Abergavenny bus station which is a popular bike meeting place (ugh!). Tha Clytha is probably one of the prettiest pubs in the country with a terrific range of beers, very good food (if eye wateringly expensive, unlike the beer) and run by a guy named Andy Canning who is very keen on his bikes. Seriously worth a look. As for the rest of your route I'd stay on the A40 past Brecon and out to Llandovery rather than go down the Heads of the Valleys (A465) ..... lots of roadworks at present and not very nice. A40 busy with bikes and therefor plod at the weekend, mind you.
hi brad et all, you could try the steel horse café on your way to Abergavenny for break fast . usually lots of bikes and a nice breakfast too. good roads with some nice sweepers .
Well it was certainly wet! My dainese gore tex suit isn't as waterproof as I'd have hoped! Rode some great roads though but had to cut the trip short to only 2 days due to the weather and my mates lack of gear.
Couple of pics when there was a break in the weather. Atop the A4069 in Brecon The A487 by the Pembrokeshire coast. A few from the route 81 from Devil's Bridge to Rhayader
