Fuel Sensor

  1. Hi. The fuel tank on my multi 2013 is full but the fuel gauge is showing empty and a fuel sensor fault warning is flashing on the dash. Don't know if this is a coincidence but when I tried to start it today from cold I could hear a solenoid clicking and the bike wouldn't turn over. After turning it off and on a few times it turned over and started but the warning didn't appear till about 2 hours later. Any ideas. cheers Gary.

  2. Faulty fuel sensor, a known problem, I am currently waiting to see whether Ducati is going to buy me a new one.

  4. Cheers john. Just found a load of posts saying that the fuel sensors are notoriously faulty. Bad news for me is that my bike is a few months out of warranty so I would have to pay for a new one.(approx. £150 plus labour). Also a software update is required from a dealer. another cost.

  5. My bike is also out of warranty but the dealer is putting in for an out of warranty claim given that this is a known problem. Whether Ducati go for parts, parts + labour or nothing remains to be seen.

  6. I could maybe try that tactic with my local dealer but I have had an issue with them when I was charged almost £200 for work that they later agreed did not need doing. They refunded my money but it has left a bit of an unpleasant taste so I don't think that they feel like putting themselves out for me.

  8. 2013 Mult fuel sensor fault, yup.
I'm on sensor 5 and my riding partner has had 4. Bike is now out of warranty but the Ducati dealer says don't worry as Ducati will cover it indefinitely. My last sensor lasted until my first fill up. This one failed showing half full constantly so at least I don't have lights on.
Get any problems I'd advise going to the consumer protection people as this is definitely a sub standard unmarketable product. I also suspect that if you remove the sensor and drain it then shake vigorously like mixing a cocktail it may work again.Looks like the magnet and the rollers got stuck. Worth a try if you'r desperate. Personally I'd go and create merry hell, stand outside Ducati with a big poster with your complaint. After trying the consumer protection people that's what they are there for.

  10. Thanks for the input lads. I probably should try the dealer to get it sorted. They might be more accomodating than I am giving them credit for. If I have to resort to standing outside the dealers with a banner I will have to ask the "Landlady" to do it for me cos I am trying to get out on the bike and I havnt got time for a protest march. Cheers Gary.

  11. Ducati have agreed to supply a new sensor but not pay the labour. I can live with that.

  12. Hi John. Is it your dealer that has agreed to supply the new sensor or have you gone through Ducati themselves. I have heard a couple of people say that they have had a similar result as you and I would just like to head off in the right direction. Cheers Gary.

  13. My dealer contacted Ducati on my behalf who agreed to supply the part as a goodwill gesture, the labour will be down to me.

  14. I see you are in Co Durham garyl, do you go south, west or north west to your dealership ?

  15. On asking about the warranty issues on the fuel sensor the second last time it failed I was told the MD or some other big cheese from Ducati head office in Europe had just been to the main dealer in Bangkok for a meeting and the topic of fuel sensors had been discussed. The result being the sensor would be covered for an indefinite period until the problem was solved.
Just wish I had that in writing!:)
Just have to wait and see what happens.
Presently waiting for delivery of a sensor for my bike.
So it really wont answer your question but I guess Ducati WILL supply the parts free, the rest is between you and the dealer.
Just hope I wasn't being bullshitted just to make me go away?

  16. Hi John. I have been going to M&S in Newcastle but since my last post, my mate who is a Mastertech in a car dealership and is fluent in "service manager speak" has been speaking to the service dept in a dealership in Leeds and they said to bring my bike in and they would replace the fuel sensor for me free of charge as they have had so many to do they are getting the hours paid for by Ducati. As Warriurf said, "I havnt got that in writing so I will just have to wait and see what happens". I am going to the Farmyard Bash in Helmsley in September and plan to take it in to them the day before. They even said they would arrange for me to take a demo bike out while they did the work to mine. Considering that I have never been to this dealership before, if it all works out right that is tremendous customer service. I will update later. Cheers Gary.
