i need to top up the oil on my 1199. it was filled with motul 300v 15w50 at the last service but i cant get any local. just had a look around the garage and found a litre but dont know how long its been there. it could be as long as 12 years. does it go off or is it ok to use
It can react to bacteria and go "off", but if it smells OK it probably is OK for a top up. Do you really need to top up now or can it wait for some fresh ?
It's water like rather than being thicker Went to top up oil in car couple of weeks back and the oil in garage at my friends had gone *off* it was too runny and didn't look right From that I would say yes it does loose something
I have a full bottle, 4L, in my garage I've had for about 3years but never got round to using, will that be ok? It's never been opened but been stored in a shed so would have gone from -4(ish) to +30 I guess.
When I worked on aircraft the oils were dated! to be sure get the pukka stuff, saves all the worry.. Then stick the old stuff in the lawn mower or the moped....
My oil on the shelf seems to have a life of it's own...........no matter how well I clean the containers after using them, there is allways a creep of oil film down the container and along the shelf.
