1200 DVT Dvt Seat

  1. Thanks, robbery is rife in GB eh. Do you have any pics with the seat in the high position i.e with the Ducati plastics fitted? just interested to see if there are any massive gaps?

  2. I had the first gen 1200s and the seat was fine. On a DVT test ride it felt like my balls were in a vice after about an hour due to the shape of the seat and padding. Can't shell 15k out at the moment I couldn't wait to get off it, shame as otherwise it was awesome.

  3. Sorry, I had it delivered in the low position and a bag of the bits that had to come off for the next owner.

  4. Apparently some people like the standard seat. I can only imagine they ride it up and down the road outside their house and no further. I can't use my arse as a judge because I find most bike seats uncomfortable after 2 hours

  5. I am having problems with standard seat too. 2011 model was better. It was wider and harder. Dvt seat pushes me towards gas tank and is too soft for my arse. I tried s 1000xr today and it has much better seat. I had seriois hip bone marrow edema this summer after 7000 km with dvt. I had to walk with crutches for 7 weeks. It may have something to do with dvt seat. I must seriously think about buying touring seat or I may even have to think about changing the bike. That would be shame because I just love the bike. s1000xr is not my choice. I just don t like the engine and style. Hope there will be many seat options soon.

  6. Had a comfort seat fitted today only done 50miles home but feels nicer and seems a little taller so more leg room.

  7. Test rode the dvt today and have to say the seat is a big step backwards. Not a patch on my 2013 1200 for comfort.

  10. The DVT seat looks poorly designed, poorly made and not thought through to me.

Think i may wait until the revised bike comes out this time next year.

  11. New comfort seat.

  12. Folks. What is the advantage of the comfort seat? I have read all the sales blurb, but is there really any great advantage. I recently covered about 900 miles in three days and yes my backside was getting painful after about every two or three hours without a break, but to be honest, I have never experienced anything other than that on any of the thirty odd bikes I have owned. If I have regular breaks, I'm fine.

  13. One of the major benefits I have found is the seating position. I usually get lower back pain after a day on the bike. Not on the DVT. I am 5' 8" and the riding position is spot on for me. I recently rode my mates GS LC and I felt as if I was perched on top of the bike instead of sitting in the bike, therefore during some spirited riding on excellent bendy roads in the north west of Scotland, the DVT was much more accurate when negotiating the bends in the correct line. The front end of the GS was also quite vague and certainly not as precise as the DVT. Again, it's an individual thing, but that is why it is so important to test as many bike options before parting with your hard earned. Jimvee's burst seat is a concern though. What on earth is going on with that. I've just checked my seat and it is fine?

A very nit picking whine but you would have thought Ducati/Touratech would have used red stitching not black. Seat depth looks thicker though

  16. Are there any links to the Touratech seat?

  17. yes I'd say it's a inch thicker all over. Much better, but I'm getting mine remade with some extra memory foam and he said he'll mimic the original cover so it will match the rear seat. The top material on the touring seat is different. It feels more rubbery so you don't slide so much on it. That doesn't help me wearing Adventure Textile trousers and the materials stick and I slide around inside the trousers. With leathers it's fine.

  18. I hated my DVT seat. Needed raising and flattening so I modified it myself by adding an extra front bracket (trimmed so it slotted into the existing one) and I made extra infill panels to cover the bigger gap. I also filled the hole between the tank and the seat using Sugru which moulded nicely to fit the profile. I also used Sugru to fix the 2 brackets together and to attach the new infill panels (these were cut from a black plastic A4 file sleeve from Staples). The mod took a day to carry out and the results are amazing - I can now ride all day without any sign of the numb ass I used to get after just an hour. Done about 600 miles since this mod and it is holding up fine. DSC_0493.JPG DSC_0488.JPG DSC_0488.JPG DSC_0493.JPG

  19. Sugru is great stuff, I used it to repair my rear light (on the 2011) when it split apart.
Glad you sorted it, I'm also concerned that the new seat tilts you forward (like the old seat did before I bought the comfort version)

A few more pictures of the brackets etc would be appreciated...
