Great, many thanks for this. I am off to Germany in a few weeks and a lot to do so not sure I'm going to het time before I go. I may buy the pipe and db killer and fit it, see how loud it is and then have a chat with Jeff. If it's too loud I may reluctantly change the end can which is a shame because I like the termi stubby.
Leo Vince decat pipe post install q's Hi guys, just to let you know, I've searched and searched and finally plunked down the change for the mid pipe. wanted a bit more sound out of the bike, and maybe even a kick more power.. so simple question that is not so easy to find in this area. I'm in New Jersey, and trying to find the best way to make sure I'm not harming my engine after I install the midpipe. Using the stock pipes by the way.. So best route to take to make sure the engine runs properly and I do not set a time bomb off? Do I just order a tuned ecu and drop it in? Do I get tuneboy and upload a map? Fast by Ferracci telling me since it's a 2014, they prefer to use power commander, which is over $350, then some other add on that adds another $300, oh, and installation, and tuning time.. basically quoted me almost $1500... if that's the case, not worth it for some extra sound, I'd rather gut the cat or just leave everything alone and move on. thanks, anthony. I have come to the same conclusion, too much cost for too little gain. I might keep an eye on eBay for a second hand decat pipe and end can. My problem is I have the termi stubby and it looks great, but it just sounds muted. I don't want to ruin the running of the engine but it sounds like if you can find a good tuner with a dyno it's possible to sort it out. But, if it ain't broke, why fix it?!
Hi guys, I installed the leo vince over the weekend. took a bit of patience to get the old anchor off and get the leo vince on. since I have the 2014, seems there was a special note to consider. the front header to leo vince pipe is off. took a bit of stretching and massaging to get the pipes to slip together. I was able to do it, but put exhaust tape at the connection to get the seal a bit better. Taking out and modifying the valve flapper mechanism is challenging to say the least. followed turkish express notes from a couple years ago to loosen the rear subframe so you can basically lift up the tail to get you access to pull out the valve flapper motor. in the end, I have no errors, nothing broken, etc. sounds awesome (maybe a bit loud at low revs, but fun). and it really does not sound much louder than stock once you hit 55mph and higher as the wind cancels it out. now just getting in contact with redline performance in VA for ecu reflashing.. seems they use rexxer for flashing there. thanks, ant.
If I could magically make a Termi stubby sound like my full Termi, while still losing the cat, I would be a happy, and very rich, man. Jon.
fyi been riding my bike with the full system/termi straight can without any db killer, and been through 2 mots, and lots of miles no issues, its not that loud imo for the trade off in the sound, safety of other road users hearing you and performance aspect.
hi all, new member request for info re "DeCat 'ing" my 2013 MST1200s GT. I've followed the above discussion with interest but it's sometime now since anyone posted an update or asked for the latest gen on this particular modification so please indulge and guide me... FYI - the bike I have has now done 15000 miles and just had its Desmo service; great bike, which I love but not at low speeds where she is difficult to keep smooth so I'm constantly changing between 2nd and 3rd gear to get a less lumpy ride whilst not straining the power train. I've been told that the solution for this is to decat the bike and remap it! As a rule I'm not one for loud pipes and pissing off the neighbours but it is a Ducati after all and other than the RR Merlin engine there is no better sound I know of than the purr and roar of a well tuned "Duke"; hence, I'm interested in doing this. But before I do I would like to get as much info as possible and the answers to the typical concerns surrounding removing the 'cat' and fitting an aftermarket end-can etc. So I would dearly love to get some input from you experts and experienced riders/mechanics out there, especially if you've done this modification to your own bike. In particular, I'd like recommendations and guidance as to which manufacturers offer the best combo (i.e. mid-pipe and end-can) in terms of build quality, aesthetics, and sound output (crucially keeping the noise emissions both road-legal and acceptable to my neighbours). MTIA and apologies for the long-winded message. phil.
Leo Vince decat (I have mine without DB killer , I always wear earplugs anyways when riding to avoid accelerating my tinnitus ) with the stock cans.

Hi, I didn't actually have any problems pre or post fitting mid pipe but had custom remap anyway which cost £250 at Dave Woods, Aylesbury. I have fitted a Mivv silencer and took out th minimal baffle and had a custom baffle made by pipewerx for only around £30 or £40. With standard terms stubby it's bloody loud, OK for a short blast but not so good for touring. I'd just get any full size silencer that you fancy and because it will probably be designed to hang of the cat which does most of the silencing then put a longer baffle in. I bought a wire clamp and bring off eBay to fudge the valve cable and stuffed the cable behind the cylinder heads Andy no bother at all.
PikesPeakSimon, many thanks for the info...I will look into it further as I'm looking to achieve a couple of things by doing this e.g. a smoother low speed ride and a better authentic Ducati sound that is both legal and acceptable to others; the aesthetics do of course come into it also but not as important as the other two elements for me. I'm thinking the Leo Vince decat system is the one I need but I'd really like to hear one fitted and get confirmation that it ticks all the boxes.
Hi SCO1, can you tell me anything more about doing this mod? Sure , the front header must be disconnected to remove the old decat, may want to pre order new exhaust gaskets at cylinder connection , although if the old ones are in good shape they should work without leaking .The LV decat readily connects to the stock cans on my year of MS which is a 2011 . The Leo Vince kit comes with hardware to redo the flapper valve so you don't get errors on your screen . There are several good posts on this replacement on a different website , must loosen subframe to allow for access to flapper controller ( Ducati MS under thread - DIY: Mid Pipe Install w/ Pictures). I also used Tuneboy tune edit to redo the map , I installed a Tuneboy up/down QS and CC at the same time as well as an MWR performance air filter , Have had this on for a couple of years now and love it .
Hi, I'm not the person you wanted but I just google searched the web and found a site which tells you how to fit the decat Andy had no problems at all. I used the original header gaskets. If I can find the link I'll send it. Pretty sure I only had to loosen the front header pipe. The Leo Vince is definitely the best pipe to have and I'd buy the Leo Vince carbon silencer to match it then it will fit properly. I bought my decat second hand with the Mivv silencer and I think the bloke who sold it (who didn't use it) couldn't get the silencer to fit and gave up because the ID of the Mivv is slightly larger than the OD of the mid pipe. A wire mesh gasket sorted that out though.
Here you go it's on the motorcycle info website. http://www.motorcycleinfo.co.uk/mts12_faq/mts1200_decat/Multistrada_1200_Exhaust_System_Change.htm
Thanks for the info Simon, I have been looking at the LV decat for a while.. missed out on a couple.. I guess I’m up against someone else now.
