Hi just bought a 2003 999s with only 1800miles on clock reason being it has been off the road for 9year but all is good, is has the tyres from new which surprisingly are not perished, but they are hard as nails. Have found in past life with Ktm 990 I had Pirelli supercorseas on it and very pleased with the grip. Question will there be a problem fitting 190/55 17" on the back instead of the standard 190/50 17" Any help would be great.
I love Dunlop Sportsmart 2s but I am also enjoying the Metzeler M7RR that I am currently evaluating. As for a 190/55 vs a 190/50 fitment, I gather that rear hugger/swing-arm clearance may (or may not) be an issue. It's something I am mulling over for my next new set of tyres. If the OP tries the 190/55, I'm sure we would all appreciate some feedback!
I couldnt fit 190/55 on my 999. It rubbed the swing arm at front. If chain wasnt new and wheel was further back it would've been ok. Also had to raise hugger on spacers.
People have done it, by spacing out the hugger bolts and moving the wheel back in the swing-arm (this would require a longer than standard chain). It will be interesting to hear of your experience if you get the 55 profile.
I used Metzeler M5's & Pilot Powers... I preferred the Metz's (amazing on sh*t, cold wet roads..) .............. chase that elephant!
