Hi, I am thinking of purchasing a new multi but have been reading a few of the threads on the forum, relating to a number of issues with new model and I trying to get a handle on whether I should be worried, before I have test ride on Thursday. I am also unsure as to whether the extra money for the S is worth it, but I like the idea of no more tinkering with the suspension, as I never seem to get it quite right, particulary two up. (current bike is a Honda CBF1000FA) Can anyone assist and shed some light on the current issues and share their thoughts on whether the Sky Hook is worth the extra money. Thanks very much.
Hi jonny , as far as issues with the new dvt are concerned you have nothing to worry about. Is the S worth the extra, only you can decide that, you get skyhook, colour TFT, multimedia, optional colour White, uprgraded brakes, LED lights, red stitching on the seat. Test ride for as long as you can, use the different modes, remember the seat can be lowered if you need to. Also try and test ride other machines too. Enjoy your test ride and let us know how it goes
All the issues are mainly minor The software issues are now all fixed (as far as I know) The luggage tabs were breaking - not heard anyone complain recently Fuel Sensors seem to be starting to play up - but if it breaks dealer fixes it The steering lock mechanism has also had to be replaced on some earlier ones as the owners have been unable to lock / unlock them. (My dealer asked me if I was having issues when he delivered the scrambler) - I never lock it - so have no problem - bike is garaged and chained to floor at home and I am with it everywhere else. Fueling issues seems to not be an issue in UK That's about it I have S and am glad I did - bike handles exceptionally well - that's not to say base model would not either. The LED Headlights are also Great! Best lights I have had on a bike. TFT Screen is nice - shame they did not build in Navigation. Take Standard and S for a ride - ask dealer to set bike in touring on High Single rider for S and ask him to set standard to your weight - take them out and see what you think. Mine is 8 weeks old and has 2250 miles - normally I do 2,000 a year - so that tells you something about how much I like this bike! Would have been more apart from the RAIN RAIN RAIN.... hence the scrambler..
Its mostly bollox. Small niggles peolpe make big issues about. Crack on and but one. A genuine bike for all circumstances, and Ducati too
So far it is a very very good all round bike. there has been a few minor problems, a few in my view user error. If I have any worries, mine uses a little oil, and had to top it up a 3 or 4 times now in 4k miles, My old 63 plate in 12k miles never used a drop, I am to understand a few new DVT engines uses oil posted by other uses, it is only a very small amount each time, but It is a pain, if it is some thing that Ducati have done on purpose, to design it that way then all well and fine, it is a 9k service that in my view is a long time on any Motor bike engine to go with the same oil in it, but if it is not designed and using oil early in its life can only get worse and be a problem later on in its life. All new models in any brand have issues, some bikes after 6 yrs are getting recalls that are done FOC, BMW users recently actually told they should not even ride the bike after one recall. So depending on what you want a bike for, and what you ride now, it is a dam fine bike that so far has proved reliable, and in my 4k miles not broken or let me down.
Top answer, made me smile, thanks! By the sounds of it I just need to stop thinking too much about it!!
Thats something worth remembering, cheers. Funnily enough just been looking at the XR forum and that seems to have a host of issues, far worse.
I'm not here to dissuade you ( or anyone else ) from the new Multi DVT standard or S. But this comment made me respond....... It isn't mostly bollox about the bike niggles......they are just that though.....niggles....minor frustrations....a waiting game. Like what? Like waiting for a part for the GIVI Ducati badged pannier (nearly two weeks) - so I (and a few others) can't use the near-side pannier as the rear lug that locks into the side of the bike cracks. Dealers J&L have been quick to get it through warranty - sounds as like Ducati taking their time getting the part out - strangely these rear lugs are a separate replaceable component. Does GIVI know something we don't? '] The other niggle is the front brake reservoir leaks, and my dealer has said "its a known fault". Its a Brembo reservoir that uses two small bolts to hold the inner rubber grommet and the outer plastic cap. Its these two bolts that Ducati have recommended are re-torqued by the dealer if the reservoir leaks(but it's not a recall - so owner beware!). I'm taking my bike in tomorrow......but going to drop the pannier off in the car as no way I'll chance riding up the 47 miles with it hanging on one(fixed front) lug! I just didn't expect it on a new motorcycle - least the most expensive motorcycle I've ever had! Just bollox and niggles though heh?
Yep. They are. Certainly not the sort if stuff that should put anyone off buying one, and not an indication of reliability
What is an indication of reliability then bradders, if what appear to be minor things go wrong, it doesn't bode well for major things surely ?
Jonnydooropen said " Thanks for the comments. I appreciate them. They are not enough to put me off a DVT if the 1200 or S rides aswell as I hope they do and the overall deal is right. I dont think its unreasonable on bikes of this money for these small things to be sorted quickly. I went to Woods dealership in Abergele, Nth Wales, over the weekend and even their demo bike had a leaking reservoir. Not a particulary good advert I thought. Its been really good getting peoples honest thoughts on the forum, before I speak to the dealers in earnest. " At least it allows everyone potential buyer to make an informed decision to purchase. great engine and handling. Great suspension, few clicks makes it almost sports bike level of handling with comfort and touring visibility for making progress!!
It's when niggles turn into bigger things, keep you off the road and don't supply a courtesy bike I object to Not saying that's the case here but leaking brake reservoir....in this day and age this isn't a BSA bantam we talking about here... Oh forgot they had cable drums in front!!!!!
*UPDATE* J&L did a grand job fitting the new pannier lug part and retorque of the reservoir. After 600 miles need to get on and start enjoying the bike now after initial downer. I've got a duc in me garage YIPEEE!
I had more retardation dragging my feet on the floor, than crushing the front brake lever against the bars on my BSA Bantam
