So Going to test ride both at weekend. Question I have is both are now around the same mark What are peoples thoughts is it worth getting end of line 2014 model with skyhook or new DVT standard. Before anyone says get a new DVT s they are just too much money and I want to limit what I sink again into a bike Cheers Kwack
I've been toying with the same thing and if it was me I'd buy either a new standard dvt or an older cheaper abs 1200 and upgrade fork springs and shock. I'd like to say I'd feel comfortable buying an older ohlins model or even skyhook but it's just another thing to go wrong and cost a lot to fix. Keep it simple and cheap, you'll get 99.9% of the same experience if the suspension is set up well, they look the same, sound the same and a well sorted set of 'normal suspension' will probably deliver just as good if not better ride than the standard electronic stuff as it's never top end in component terms
Get a 2011/12 1200s and buy the Ohlins aftermarket SCU. Can't fault it and best £200 spent after the Moto Rapido ECU reprogramme. Andy
Bearing in mind I do around 6k per year so need something reliable with warranty preferably with reasonable low mileage. Been spending too much on bikes and swapping too often.. Next bike needs to get me 30k out of it easily
I've no reason not to expect that and more from my 2012 touring. Had my ST4s for 10 years and never missed a beat and I don't see why I won't get that out of the Multistrada. Always done a filter and oil change at 6 months with good quality oil and done routine cleaning and greasing. Always dry spray lube the chain as it cools after a run. Got a routine so it doesn't take more than 10 minutes before it gets put away and about 30 minutes once a month. If you want it to last you got to look after it. Andy
Ironically, I'm just about to put my faithful old ST4s back on the road, whilst my Multistrada is fixed - this time it's an Ohlins fork seal. To be fair, I've not had any serious mechanical issues with the 'Strada, but a number of irritating little problems that have been enough for me to wait until next year to consider buying the DVT. What I have toyed with is getting a standard DVT and hoping that Ohlins will bring out a DVT version of the Mechatronics fork/shock package that they did for the older bike. I'm riding the DVT tomorrow so will finally get the chance to compare the Mechatronics-equipped mk 1 1200 with the current Skyhook model.
That's good to know. I won't bore you all with my previous panigale which was extremely unreliable resulting in a new engine in the end. Hence you can understand my hesitance to jump straight in
55,000 miles here and the only major issue I had was a knackered wiring loom that shorted out the ECU.
Sound advice and something I've always done. You wouldn't believe the state of some multistradas out there currently for sale 2nd hand. The mate I sold mine to has cleaned it once since march It was spotless when I gave it him, now I wouldn't even take it back at a reduced rate. There's a couple I've seen which are really nice condition and it just goes to show a little 'bike love' can go a long way. Obviously electronic issues are hard to prevent unfortunately
