Vans Transit Vivaro Or T6 Anyone In The Van Trade?

  1. Toying with the idea of retiring the wife's Modus as she only drives it 3 or 4 periods in the year when she is in England. I drive it about 10,000 miles a year, down from 20,000 so it's served well over the last 10 years of ownership.

Fancy splashing out on a Van for all round use, maybe new (discounted) Transit, Vivaro or VWT6.
Can get a new Vivaro for £14K and not much more for a Transit - the T6 will probably be too much (launches this week I think) but holds value much better. Preference is for a tailgate and half bulkhead, side windows with double opening side doors which might be difficult on the discounted ones.

Plan is to keep it for years, maybe 10 or so. Any Van people / retailers on here? What's the T6 likely to be discounted to come spring in comparison to the other two?

  2. I've a t5 and love it. About 33 mpg lots if room drives like a car etc. quality.

  3. I've got a vito sport Dualiner. It bangs out 254bhp and I love it. Obviously shite on fuel and tyres when you cane it but who's bothered about minor detail??

  6. I prefer the Vivaro to the VW. More room in the back, lighter, less sharp clutch and more economical. Cab feels more plasticky in the Vivaro, there is slightly more wind noise and the brakes aren't as strong as the Vdub's, but I'd prefer it as a working or bike carrying van.

  7. I'm sort of there I think with its looks - but if the VW was close on price I would have to think. Liking the fuel economy of the new vans.

  11. Before the transit I had a T6, and although it was a good truck, the price is based on the image (helps resale) but the transit is light years ahead in terms of kit and driving......it won't be long until a new VW is here and im sure it'll be good....

  12. cant help but think rear entry height would be your main concern.
for getting the bike in RH for getting the bike in.

  13. T6 due out this week, you mean T5 :)

  14. yeah, you're right, i think they called the one i had 5.1 2013 model....
Yeah, you're right, i think they might have called it the 5.1, 2013 model.......

  15. Low loading level on the transit, easy push in on my own.......could get 2 in but never needed to......most vans seem to be pretty low for getting gear in...

  16. had a look at a transit last week an 04 but v.tidy quite high at the back but manageable, about 50mm to low for the fugly at the door, dooable but got my hart set on a ducato. superb vans if you can get a good condition early model. pay about 2-3k for a belter. not overly convinced on the newer model.

  17. I've been vanning bikes around a lot this past year and though I haven't actually measured it, the Vivaro/Traffic felt lower and therefore easier to get a bike into than the VW. Less of a step up when you're hanging onto the bike and getting up into the van behind it. And there is slightly more headroom. The KTM won't go into either van without removing the screen but the mirrors are against the roof in the VW and they're clear in the Vivaro.
I did use one Transit, 14 plate I think. Again didn't measure anything but it felt roomier in the back than the VW and it was a nice driving van. Hill start assist feels a nice touch when you've got a precious bike strapped down in the back.

  18. I can get the DVT in the transit but i have to remove the mirrors and screen...... its does feel easier to load than the VW.
The transit has loads of gadgets and toys, hill start is great but the list goes on the rear camera is good (great for a trailer) lane assist plus all the media stuff its a good place to spend time......
and although its not needed all the time i love the fold down roof rack, great idea, no whistling on the motorway but its there if needed ( and i stays under 2m for cheap tolls)

  19. I have a t5 highline,if it's toys your after the highline is well specked, the t6 is only a facelift so still has the same body shell, t5 is cramped for 3 full size people, if you are doing motorway miles you need the 140 bhp at least as it has the 6 speed box and returns 40 mpg,try to avoid the t32 as it can't be mod'do at all garages and it sits high at the back and looks shit, the only thing that would get me away from a transporter is the new tranny, not heard a bad thing about them.

  20. Just after a basic van for best cost - pre reg new or very few miles, economy is the main factor. Will convert later to more seats, but prefer a tailgate with window and no bulkhead which unfortunately is not often specified.
