Steering Lock

  1. Finally the proud new owner of a '11 1098 Streetfighter S.

One snag I've found is that the steering lock won't engage. From what I can see, when I fully turn the bars, the yoke isn't clearing the lock pin.

I see there are adjusters on the bottom yoke but clearance from the tank at full lock is already about as small as it can be.

Any ideas how to fix this?

  2. I wasn't aware there were any adjusters on the bottom yoke. Perhaps I'm just unobservant. Mine doesn't engage when the bars are at full lock. Turn them back a few degrees and it slots into place. The tight clearance between bars and tank at full lock is normal. I've got barely a millimetre.

Minor niggle anyway which I'm sure you'll sort. Welcome to the club. You've bought a future cult classic. Any Pics?

  3. There're 2 screws with a lock nut to adjust full lock. Stops the fork clamps on the top yoke from bashing up your tank.

Maybe I'm just being stupid so I'll take another look in the morning.

I've been wanting one for a long time but I kept missing out on the good ones. I'll put some pics up when it stops raining!

  4. Are you turning the bars the correct way? (to the left iirc) The lock won't engage the opposite way.

    Congratulations btw. Top choice. :upyeah:

  5. Had another look this morning. Turned the steering through its full range and the lock doesn't engage anywhere.

The place I got it from has said to drop it in and they'll take a look.

  6. Steering lock is working now. Had to wind the adjuster screw right out on the left side and pull the top yoke onto the tank for it to engage, which I'm not too happy about but I guess that's just the way it is. Might put a piece of clear 3M tape on the tank to avoid paint damage.

  7. Glad you got it working though, it does sound odd that it's now hitting the tank. Mine was certainly not like that. Perhaps get someone to take a look at it?

  8. I might take a look into how the tank bolts on at the weekend to see if there's any adjustability there. Only need a smidge
