899 Getting Bike On A Bike After 5 Years Away Insurance!

  1. Go with Swinton...then ask them to take all the add on's off and it will be a quid a month

  2. I am 31, have 9 years NCD so very differnt, all I can say is that I was paying £180 on my Daytona 675R and Bennetts wanted £1500 for the 899, so it's not necessarily to do with your circumstances, it's all about the underwriter.

I ended up with Motorcycle Direct, who in the past have been really expensive but got my insurance for just under £400 which is still more than I would like but will accept it for the first year.

Try Ducati Ins, but also consider even getting a 'Bike Trac' fitted, yes you pay £100 a year for the subscription but you may just find that in your circumstances it knocks £300-400 off the cost of the insurance, and opens you up to underwriters that wouldn't quote before.

Also, technically, from an online quote engine perspective this is the biggest engined bike you have owned, which if they ask goes against you. If your on the phone I have never been asked that before.

    Best of luck

  3. I'm with MCE on the Panigale, as I'm only 24 they were the only company even remotely sensible.

Customer service is sh*t sometimes though.

  4. I've heard this, infact I have heard they are among the worst in the business, but at the end of the day you just want a certificate and then you try and stay out of trouble while you build NCD etc. I don't blame insurance companies for thinking Ducati's are risky, even at garages etc the amount of people that hover around mine and think it's okay to poke and fiddle with it, I wouldn't be surprised if half the claims are idiots knocking them over!

  6. BikeTrac did practically nothing for my insurance costs. Probably knocked £30 off.

  7. Hi guys thanks for all the replies so far. I called Ducati and they came back with £854 still a long way from the £280 i payed for my gsxr600. Were to go from here.
    Steve...

  8. Motorcycle direct were cheapest on my 1199s £300 fully comp 41 full NCB garaged was gutted as my 999s used to be £140!

  9. dont understand insurance.just done my 1199 and when i put the reg in the online search,it comes up with a 1199s. when i rang up to correct this ,the price went up. how can an s model be cheaper than an abs model

  10. This was the case when I had my 749S, it was cheaper to insure than the standard 749. Didn't make any sense. Not that I was complaining. Maybe the insurance companies think 'S' stands for 'slower' or 'Safer'. :Wacky:

  11. I had 18 years break from biking, then bought a new 848.
Cheapest insurance quotes were Carol Nash and CIA.
Now have a 1199s and MCE far cheaper, but Ducati insurance are not far away in price now.

  12. Wooden garages are also available.

  13. Yes, I have a wooden garage - how's your shed coming along :)

  14. Hi,
What are you setting the excess at? I put mine right up which brought the price down considerably. I did that on an online comparison site (thebikeinsurer - stay clear, bunch of chancers, the cheap quote was expensive by the time I'd finished being grilled) then called cornmarket. They do the thing where they guarantee to beat your best quote so I gave them my reference number for onilne comparison quote, they looked at the quote, copied all the infomration I'd put into the comparison site and then knocked a fair chunk off. Then they added my second bike for next to nothing.

Having a large excess is a fairly good incentive not to sling it down the road.

  15. I had a very similar problem with my 899 a couple of years back, £1800 was about what I had quoted for a 40yr old with no no-claims etc, went through Ducati Insurance this year for both my bikes, much much cheaper. Seem friendly enough and know what they're doing (caveat being I haven't had cause to use them yet)...

  16. I was with MCE for 5 years, my insurance was due up next week... called them up and got quoted 1150....(1100 excesses) I'm 38 6 years NCD, Garage etc etc..... My ZX10r 05 was 300..... so went online and ended up with Bikesure.... £480 (500 excess) with helmet and leathers cover etc etc... in fact all the extras that MCE offer apart from trackday (but I'll pay that seperately with the Duc) in fact pay £35 and your excess is covered ie, ZERO excess!! well impressed..... have a shop around..

  17. I've heard some horror stories about MCE, when I tried to contact them regarding a quote they were pretty aggressive and wouldn't actually confirm they were brokers and didn't provide the insurance themselves.

  18. Yep I've had a mixed bag. Had one guy who was going out of his way to start an argument with me. Even gave me a grilling over the choice of bike and my age. F*cking idiot.

The last guy I dealt with though was a top bloke! really helpful and genuine.

  19. I had an ignorant tw@t at bikeinsurer (Clayton Jupp I think his name was) accuse me of not looking after my bike properly because of my choice of security measures! :punch::Rage:

  20. Never had any real issues with Carole Nash, apart from when they had a spell of sending idiotically inflated renewal quotes that then took several phone calls till you got the 'right' person who could actually agree a lower price than the previous year and then the time I broke down in mid-Wales and found their breakdown recovery to be useless, unless you'd broken down within sight of the chimney pots on your house, but more than 3 miles away and it was a Tuesday, but not raining and fell in the first half of the year. Otherwise they've been excellent - in other words, when you don't need anything from them and just want to pay your premium, or add a bike to your policy - until yesterday, that is. I'm buying a CB900F Freddie Spencer rep, but with a GSX1100 engine, Fireblade forks and swingarm, mono, rather than twinshock. Carole Nash quoted £558, reduced to £428 after floods of tears. I spoke to the seller, he suggested Footman James, so I called them and 20 mins later, exactly the same info given - all mods reported honestly - they quoted £137!! Charming people. The policy at C Nash for 6 bikes may soon be going elsewhere......
