Hello, Not sure if this is the correct area to post this in, please move it if not. Just after some advice about the rectifier / regulator on my 1996 M600. The previous owner has converted the rectifier to a 3 phase Shindengen SH673-12 item; the alternator is the original 2 yellow wire item. This system work perfectly, but it really bugs me that the battery idiot light on the dash panel does not work, due to there being no take off from the new regulator to accommodate the battery light. Being a motorsport engineer, the fact that this light does not work really annoys me, and plus I like the originality and simplicity of the monster dash, and therefore do not want to add in a voltmeter or the like etc.... So I would like to convert it back to the original spec single phase system, so I can accommodate the dash light once more. Can anyone point me in the direction of the correct original spec replacement type? I have found a rectifier for a M900 (please see link to eBay link http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2008448531...165%26_rdc%3D1) I’m aware that the 900 has a higher alternator output, but I cannot find a similar item for a M600. The rectifier in the link has all the correct wiring connection on it, so is perfect in that instance. Can anyone help me on this front? Secondly..... There is a separate electrical issue on my bike, and I am unsure if this is anyway related to the changed wiring for the 3 phase rectifier (i.e. no reference feed from the fuse box). When the ignition key is in the P Park position and I turn my headlamp switch to position one (side lights)(as you would at the side of a dark road), No sidelights come on, instead this turns all my ignition lights on the dash and you can start the bike! Without the key in it! But when you slide the headlamp switch to the second position (dipped beam setting) the ignition lights go off and the headlamp illuminates??? Any help on the issues would be greatly appreciated. I have been through all the electrics on the bike, and can’t see anything un to ward. But I may be missing something silly, or it may be to do with the 3 phase conversion. The only part that does stump me is the keyed ignition switch (not something we have in the motorsport industry - usually a few switches and buttons) Could it be an issue with that?
The three phase reg rec you have fitted will not make your system three phase, only two of the three wires will be connected keeping it at single phase, the shindengen is a far better reg than the original. Many early ducati,s had none working warning lights on the dash from the factory. Steve
Thanks birdie. I will have a look on there website. The rest of the bike is very tidy apart from the rectifier conversion. Which is a bit of a bodge. Will a m900 rectifier from the same year bike work? I've heard they have a higher alternator output? Thanks.
I bought one of these rectifier units from M&P for my S4R a few months ago after the original failed and left me with a long push home. Delivery was very prompt and fitting straightforward, so far so good, battery charging okay and ignition, lights etc. work okay, bike starts easily after being left for up to 2 weeks.
Sparch - sorry did you buy the one from the eBay link in my post or one from electrex world as birdie suggested? Thanks
Lock is the normal parking position. P is for parking lights, so your sidelights should come on automatically in that position but without dash lights illuminating as well. If you're going to use parking lights, I would recommend replacing your tungsten bulbs with LEDs for lower battery drain.
Thanks. I will get one ordered and try it Old rider - when I put key to P for parking lights, no side lights come on. Then if I switch the headlight switch for side lights all ignition lights come on and I can start the bike without the key. Have you any idea what could be the issue?
Does anyone have a picture of what wire goes where on the ignition barrel. Haynes manual shows colours but not really positions. Thanks for your help.
Hello all, I installed the new m and p rectifier at the weekend. But now have some more issues. I plugged all the wires in before bolting the rectifier on. All was good, battery warning light illuminated before start up. Light turned off on engine start up and charging all good. I bolted the unit up, put the bike battery on charge as it was a bit low. Went to fire it up after battery was charged, the battery warning light was very dim before engine start? Fired up, light goes out and charges fine Why is the battery light so dim when the engine is off? Is it because the battery is fully charged? The light gets brighter if you switch the handle bar kill switch to off? I know many will say that why am I bothered about the warning light. But it annoys me that it doesn't work! Thanks.
