Is It Wrong??

  1. I've been recently looking at second hand......wait for it....XR1200 Sportsters,YES HARLEY!!!!! :Wideyed:
To have as another bike.....I am a bit disgusted with myself, but there's something about them, especially that 'flat-tracker' look.
Perhaps the chemo and radiotherapy has done something to my brain :Bucktooth:

  10. I'm sure it will pass, don't worry.

  11. I've only ridden a couple of Harleys but I get it. There is a feel-good factor riding them which doesn't have much to do with performance or handling (or braking) - obviously.
In a crowded environment with more and more traffic, congestion and speed limits, I can see that they could make quite a lot of sense.

The bad news about Harley ownership seems to be the fake American bad-boy image and the gruesome clothes that go with it. But you could probably ignore that.
I'm not so sure about the Sportster though. The 1340 motor is a lot nicer and vibrates less, although it makes you feel sick at tickover when you stop for red lights.

  12. It's quite tempting to go for a low-budget low-performance antiquated-specification bike, to use for slow, relaxed poodling, and I can see the attraction especially if you have been unwell. A Royal Enfield should fit the bill.

But a Harley-Davidson? You have got to be kidding.

  15. Some harleys are pretty cool.. ive hired one in alot of the countries ive been to and find em a hoot and surprisingly nimble for their size. loud enuf to add some degree of safety, they pull like a school boy, are not a bad way to sight see and believe or not chicks dig em (probably not such a valid reason for you jen :)) but a good thing non the less.
Have a good mate back home (Terry Eva) who used to race an XR 1200 punched out to about 1600? anyhu he used to race in bears and i think the f1 class where he was a multi time national champ racing against a pretty much open class including jap sports bikes.
never rode his bike but when i was about 18 i helped him pack up his stand at a show and got to roll on it down a hill to his shop and it felt not alot heavier than my kx 125!
Ride what ever puts a smile on ya face (but expect some flack!) (i quite like the 48 :Bag:)

  16. I have a fat Bob and love it. It's a very different ride. In traffic it's like Moses, cars move to the side! (I do have daymaker headlamps and V&H longshots.

  17. was put of Harley's when everyone went mad on them a few years ago
throwing the arlen ness catalogue at them then entering shows
although I am tempted with the idea of one with no chrome
    and a slight ratty look

  18. I bought my Multi from a dealer who was a Ducati and HD dealer. While the Multi was in for warranty work, I borrowed an XR1200 and did about 400 miles on it. It was charming and good fun for about 15 mins then was slow, noisy and uncomfortable after that (for the other 390 miles), after which I hated it and vowed to never touch another HD as long as I live.
