1200 Another Fuel Sensor

  1. Well after having the first one replaced last November its gone again !!... Pants !!!! and then they cant do it for 5 weeks....pants. beginning to get sick of this.

  2. fuel level sensor ?

whats the symptoms does the dashbars stop displaying or go high up enough ?

  3. Yes the dashbars still display but completely random, when I filled up yesterday it then showed I was on reserve for about 20 miles then decided to go up to half a tank :Rage:

  4. yea, mine does that, not everytime perfect registering once fuel is down but after a few miles it settles down, mind you I am filling 2-3 times per week I guess I would notice it if only once every so often.

  5. This will be the 3rd sensor in about 6 months !! bloody Italians !! :Meh:

  6. Surely these old sensors can be stripped down and sorted. Isn't it a magnetic float?

  7. Always reset one of my mileage trips when I fill up. Habit from when bikes had fuel taps and no fuel gauges.
Almost miss the sensation of fumbling for the fuel tap under the tank with a cold gloved hand just as you move out into lane 3 on a busy M25 in rush hour!
    :D

  8. Looking at the DVT posts it looks like Ducati still haven't found a solution to the fuel level sensor problem.
Like many others I've had mine replaced but the new one is now starting playing up.
After working perfectly for a couple of thousand miles its now very slow recognising a fill up, staying obstinately on empty until Ive done about 4 or 5 miles. Then it creeps slowly up to full.
It's latest trick is to show bone dry empty, with flashing one bar and only 4 miles left on range. However when I fill up I can only squeeze less than 13 litres in. I suspect it may be a symptom of the sensor being 'stuck' or something.
    So the questions are,
Has anyone had a sensor replaced and then found it worked perfectly since? or
Do they all go wrong again?
    Has anyone found a solution?

  9. Well im on my 3rd sensor on a 2104 plate, we'll see how long this lasts.

  10. mine has been a little random for a while.I use the trip to keep an eye on fuel, the bike is out of warranty and I can't be assed
to get it replaced with one that might be worse.

  11. It is just a float and magnet, can they not be refurbed, so have one in the bike and a refurbed one ready. Keep a constant cycle. From what I hear it's the float getting stuck. A strip, clean and re-sealing the float should do it.

  12. I don't think it is as simple as this. With my replacement probe, apparently the latest version, after putting the bike away with half a tank and the correct reading on the gauge the following time I started the bike the gauge showed full before slowly ( a minute or two) dropping back to half way, a stuck float would not explain that.

It has only happened the once !

  13. Well mine is playing up again, I cant be bothered with it, ill just use the trip meter instead :Banghead:

  14. I've got the same problem. Was fine until 1000miles and left with dealer for nearly 2 months for other warranty work. Bike needed fuel when I picked it up. Brimmed it, but it didn't register for about 20 miles, and even then only to half a tank. Ran it til almost empty and towards the end it seemed OK. Filled it up again, and this time it never moved off empty with the fuel warning light on. This is just the latest problem with my DVT- new fork leg, new front cylinder and now this. Piece of shit. And anyone on here saying their problems are "to be expected" with a new bike or "character" are talking utter shite. No excuse for a premium machine to have all the problems they are being reported. Ducati...you should be ashamed of yourselves! I won't ever buy another, so you've lost a good and what would have been a loyal customer.

  15. Nice rant Lamb :upyeah:, I agree 100%.....to the point that last month I traded my Mutley in for a new Speed Triple R, ......big grin :D:D:D ever since. (fuel gauge works too!)
Only trouble is Triumph forum is somewhat quieter than this one.
Wonder why that is then?

  16. Mine seems to be on the way out - last few tanks while I was in Spain and it was failing to register full. I'm sticking with the trip counter.

Can we rely on the fuel light as being accurate?

  17. Surely the light works in conjunction with the gauge so if the gauge is giving false info so will the light !

  18. Nope.

  19. No..my fuel light was on after about 30 miles on a full tank !!

  20. Was thinking by 11 plate was starting with this, but not getting the same symptoms as others ?

Shows full bars and silly range (225 miles) when filled up , then range drops to expected 160 after a few miles, but it tends to throw a wobbler last 1/4, range counts down as normal but tends to go up and down around 50 mile range mark, goes back up top 70 mile range then slowly comes down with fuel light coming on around 30 mile range. Re fueling takes about 14 litres. I usually get around 160 miles to a tank, bit more touring.

Have had fuel sensor warning and lights twice, but have always reset after switching on and off ?

    Any thoughts ?
