A few pics - just got back from approx 1800 miles around the Picos, Pyrenees, MotoGP at Aragon, before heading back up to the North Coast. Great trip, and the bike was superb, even fully loaded. Waiting for the ferry Incredible mountain pass up to a dam - only an hour from the ferry at Santander: Somewhere mid-Picos On the way up to Puerto San Glorio in the Picos (amazing road!) Top of Puerto San Glorio
Thinkng of riding over to Almeria end Nov via Santander. Interested in any routes which may be suitable, I'll have two days down, one very long day back to ferry
I can email you some suggestions. You can't go far wrong in much of Northern Spain to be honest! Only thing is Almeria is a long way South, so it would be an extremely long day back. Even two days down would be two long tiring days using mostly motorway. As an example, in June I rode Barcelona to Santander in a day, with the final 100 miles in the mountains to round things off. It was an all day journey with much of it on the motorway. It was dull! If you're spending the money to get down there and can afford the time off then you may as well spend an extra few days to enjoy some amazing riding. Trust me, it's well worth it!
I did near Barcelona back to Burgos in a day once and that was bad enough, what a numb arse ! Great pics by the way, must get back over there soon.
That wouod be great. Mates are doing a track day, I cant get a spot (and dont have a bike at the mo) but have booked the time off. So thought, hell, why not ride down. £300 for the crossing. 1200kms would be tough in one day, will have sun-sat so two days there, 2 days stay, 2 days back
PM me your email address and I can send you some recommendations, but bear in mind that it's a lot of riding - it always looks more manageable on Google maps, and remember that you need to add half an hour per 150 miles for rest stops (numb bum recovery time, down a can of Monster, quick smoke and a wee and on your way!). I'd do it solo because I'm a bit of a masochist for doing lots of miles. But try and keep a balance between distance and fun.
Just came back from a week in Campo, Pyrenees. The whole experience was awesome ....as was the bike.. again, now 3 European tours 3 round Bonny Scotland and 1 Wales and wouldnt want to be on anything else
Worth noting that there are masses, absolutely masses of AMAZING roads, the best you'll ever ride, within 30 minutes of getting off the ferry in Santander. Failing that, the Pyrenees are only a couple of hours away, and you could easily spend a week just riding more amazing roads. Virtually deserted, beautifully smooth and grippy, with stunning scenery. Also, just to add, the Multistrada was amazing. Two up and fully loaded with extra wide panniers and stuffed top box, and it still had performance in abundance, and was still enormous fun. I need new toe sliders on both boots!
Incidentally, there were around 140 bikes on the return ferry, and probably about 10 Multistradas. A couple of GTs, an air-cooled 1100, and some nice friendly owners.
Only you can change that, bradders. I was like that until a couple of years ago. Do it once and you will want to go every year. Start planning now for next spring.
