1200 DVT First Service Is Not At 600 Miles

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Mad_Sunday, Oct 3, 2015.

  1. I've had my "basic" DVT for almost a month now and I just love it. I needed 26 more miles on it yesterday to reach the supposed 600 mile service. By the time I got home it had 614 miles clocked up. Still no service warning tho? After putting the bike away my train of thought was that maybe the base model's mono display doesn't have a service warning? Then I wondered... if a KM clock bike has a service at 1000kms, had I actually reached that figure? It seems that 1000kms is actually 622 miles, ie 8 more than I'd done. I got the bike out again and rode off, sure enough, about 8 miles down the road the clock flashed "oil" and went back to display the time. Now when I switch the bike on it flashes "oil" before switching to total miles/time.

  3. If you have paid for the service to be then charged to reset the service light would be a bit OTT IMHO.

  4. How's about this for a logical reason.........it is manufactured by an Italian company, their main unit of measurement for transport is kilometres, the bike has to hit a nice round 1000 kilometres for it's first service, and a thousand kilometres equals 621 miles.

There you go, problem solved :)

  5. Oh I think we all realise that, so why say to owners the service interval is 600 miles.
I'm sure plenty of people take their bike in, only to have to go back again a day or so later.

  6. 600 is easier to remember. What should happen is that the software also changes when the light comes on. Simples

  7. And 625 is hard to remember?

  8. 6 2 what?

Just saying that the simplest thing is for the software to adjust. In fact, I can't believe that's not what's done. Lazy programming. Fixable with an update and a minor alteration to the code, if someone would kindly pass the message on to Bologna.

  9. When I took my DVT in for its "600 mile" service at Snells in May, it was at exactly 600. So they helpfully suggested I go out for a little 20 mile ride before they did the service. This only took a few minutes. Job done.

  10. I'd suggest the dealers start telling owners about this. Imagine a busy workshop having to tell owners to go away and do another 20 miles (in the pouring rain maybe) while we twiddle our thumbs. If this occurs at the 9000 mile service, they will have to ask us to pop out and do another 320 miles! ;-)

  12. Just had the 7500 mile service at 8250. No questions asked. No problems. Was the same with my Aprilia. 621 miles for the first service.
Life's too short to worry about it marra. Just enjoy the bike.

  13. What about (paranoia setting in here), if your engine "exploded" after the "service interval" and before you took it for the actual service? Warranty void?

  14. I give up. Just get out and enjoy the bike. Or wrap yourself in cotton wool and stay in. Up to you.

  16. It wouldn't personally bother me. I take my rides for service after the due mileage. It may be 10 to 20% higher than what it says in the book.

I certainly don't ride looking at the odometer so that I'm conveniently outside the service center when the 600 miles clocked round.

  17. Ending up outside the service centre when it ticks onto being due, runs hand in hand with those people that photograph and categorise trains. Unfortunately my little sister is dating one of those. [emoji23]

  18. The dealer can reset the service light early if you bring your bike in for the service before the light comes on. i.e. they can make it so the light doesn't come on requiring another visit.

  19. Similar question my multistrada has done 6400 miles but service book states 7500 or November which ever comes first ..can't afford it before Christmas. .am I ok to carry on ?is my warranty safe

  20. Best bet is to give the dealer a ring and ask them if there is a tolerance around the mileage number. Pretty sure there would be.
