I've decided to change my sprockets to a different size to get a bit more grunt and sacrifice some top end. I was thinking of going for 14/40 setup with an extra 2 links in the chain to accommodate the larger rear sprocket. Anyone running like this, or got any other suggestions?
I will have a quick change sprocket assembly for sale in the next few days and maybe a renthal sprocket (I am not sure which sizes I have multiples of)
I always go one tooth up on the back sprocket of my bikes, for me that's enough. You might want to try slightly higher gearing first before you drop down too much. You may find it too low or it might be too prone to wheelieing for your liking. A quick change sprocket carrier is a good idea and I use them on all my bikes and it makes changing gearing from one bike to the other fairly easy. I have selction right through the basic range which does help and two of them use the same chain size.
Recently changed mine from standard to 14/40. Much easier around town and acceleration is better. You find you'll be in 6th sooner and few mph top end are knocked off, for me 14/40 is spot on and wouldn't change it. I echo the quick release unit, this is what I purchased.
