750 Sport Ie Oil Leak

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by justsomechap, Oct 16, 2015.

  1. Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me with my fairly large oil leak.

It seems to be leaking from the rear cylinder head where it bots to the block, is this a common problem and am I looking at big money to get it fixed?
The oil seems to be collecting and then dripping / being blown on to the exhausts which is not really it ideal as I'm having to use the bike while my car is off the road :(

    Any help would be appreciated.

  2. That does look pretty bad..........If you are sure it's from the base of the cylinder and not the crankcase breather, there is a slight possibility you could ease it by tightening the cylinder head nuts a bit more......

........otherwise it's an engine out and cylinder head off, barrel off job.......

  3. I had the same problem with my 750ie. Oil leak from the rear cylinder.
Engine had to be dropped from the frame and cylinder removed to add new liquid gasket.
It was around £400 to fix.

  4. That's what I was afraid of :(

  5. seem to remember something said about oil leak at base of the cylinder barrel as the base gasket covers a hole to do with an oil way to blank it off but If gasket deteriorates for some reason it allows oil to leak out

  6. There is also an O-ring under the breather unit IIRC.
