very tidy, standard example (just sold through Made in Italy Motorcycles) who's the lucky owner, anyone on here?
There's a nice 900SL in at Italia Moto at the moment, some lovely extras on it and the £6.5k asking doesn't seem like a bad price at all
very nice! tho can't get me knees comfy in relation to the pots, but it's certainly a great way to waste an hour or so wandering around their stock, I sold my 888 to them as I knew it would eventually find a caring owner.
It was only for sale for a few days at £6500. Had the wrong exhausts, they had all the emission laws stamped on, You didn't get that in 1992. If anyone interested I'd gladly sell mine for £6500 with termis and the correct standard pipes, just as nice as the one above.
according to the sl register it belonged to a Tony Raynor UK resident, it also says out of a total production of 952, just 522 MK1's came to the UK, so this one being #555 (or it's pipes at least)possibly came from somewhere other than UK perchance, that enjoyed tougher emission laws maybe. (i'm making the large assumption that it was #001 to #522 that came here, still lovely looking bikes though)
Suppose it depends on how the UK allocation was granted, if the UK got the first 522 bikes off the line then could be so. I have heard that with some numbered models of Ducati the assembly and allocation of edition number was not always sequential, so this could also be a factor, or if the 522 UK bikes came from several manufacturing batches then this could also influence the bikes that reached these shores. I'd love an SL, they're a superb looking machine!
Since running the register for the last 3 years I have found that Ducati didn't keep very good records. I have found out that some low numbered Superlights were duplicated for different markets. I have also found that these bikes do travel! Many are exported/imported between various countries. I have tried to research the numbers as to what numbered bikes went where but I couldn't find the information.
just been sat here for the last 10 minutes drooling over that 748s some absolutely stunning bikes on there
I am not too sure how accurate the figures are. Maybe as the register grows over the years we may get a better idea.... I know of 3 MKII #001 in different countries which are the UK, Italy and Australia. The Italian one has a sticker under the tank that says 'Campione non comerciable' translated means' Sample not for sale' Maybe it was for show and got into private hands. The UK and Italian ones were verified by way of chassis numbers as Superlights by Ducati. Ian Falloon also confirmed that low numbered plaques were duplicated. Check out the attached photos.
Here is my MKIII that needed restoration. I have the cast iron rotors to fit then it is done. It isn't strictly original but then it was a complete mess cosmetically and mechanically when I got it.
honestly I don't know! who does? but it seems we're in an age where some people are prepared to pay these sums.
