The panniers that came with my bike had the silver insert and I would really like the red ones however I dont want to be fleeced for the £106 Ducati want for 2 bits of plastic. Has anyone sprayed theirs of had a vinyl wrap applied?
It would be difficult to respray them without messing up the little "Ducati" logo. I wonder if it is possible to buy the logoes separately?
I might be interested in colour matching the pannier and top case panels, but not at £106.80 and £85.40 respectively for the Ducati parts. @Pete1950 - looks like Ducati sticker on the panniers might be the same as those on the nose of the fairing and the rack (both part number 43819301A)? Update: Just found the Pannier Installation Instructions on the ProItalia website. It has a parts list of all the pannier moldings as well as the brackets and rubbers. The sticker on the panniers is the same as the others on the bike.
I have a Givi top box from my Triumph Tiger Sport and the original panniers as part of the touring package, so decided to paint all of them to match the red, came out ok, just need to order the rack, Givi don't sell this yet, but a dealer will order me the rack separately so alls good.managed to remove the Ducati badges and refit them, not perfect, but good enough for me. paint supplied by RS Motorbike Paint Colours - Motorcycle paint, bike paint, Kawasaki Honda Yamaha great service and prices and quality very good, gives a nice finish.
The Accountants are genius at coming up with extras to sell. Who woulda come up with Colour coded panels for damn panniers!
Hi Reaper, their paint catalogue only goes up to 2014 Multistrada, did you use this or did they provide an updated colour code ?
Hi all, this was the first mod I did when receiving my DVT. Ducati 'Logo' was easily removed when heating it up with the hot air gun. don't be afraid, they are aluminium so can handle a bit of force. friend has a paint booth, so color was measured and results are perfect. strange thing is that the 2016 1200S are including the correct colour panniers. so ducati tricked us 'first DVT owners' with this cheap trick hoping to sell some extra accessories??
Hi B1stoboy, I spoke to Phil at RS Bikepaint (very helpful) the colour was Anniversary Red if I remember correctly, he supplied all the paint, primer and lacquer needed to paint these parts, actually very good quality paint too, nice finish, I was impressed.
There are the paint codes, you have them on your owners manual. Primer Acriflex White L0040652 (Lechler) Varnish Acriplast Red Stoner SF LMC06017 (Lechler)
Hi just spoke with RS paints as they told me that the undercoat is grey. The guy thinks that the white primer is a base coat and you need the grey then red to get the correct shade. He recommended rubbing down the silver with 800 grit wet n dry then light coats of the grey then light coats of red with a final two coats of gloss lacquer. There is no need to use wet n dry between any of the coats of their paint.
I have just picked up a set of panniers today from my dealer with red inserts. I got the impression that the original batch of red inserts were very orange peely and the paint was not of good quality. This may be why only silver ones were available in the begining? I am glad that I waited to get the touring kit now rather than from the factory.
