  1. Ducati Paddy has an old Rita system if you are in need ??

  2. Yipee - the beautiful Black 'n Gold Darmah is arriving tomorrow - cant wait !
I've ordered some magnetic debris catchers and 10l of Millerol straight 50 non-detergent.

I have a growing list of jobs to do, from checking the age of tyres to lubing all the cables and everything inbetween. I understand that the engine has been run twice last year, then not at all for the previous eight years, vac-bag job !

The engine number is just 16 shy of the change over to the wider stud spacing for the carbs - oh well. It does have 40 carbs on though, but with narrow inlets don't 'spose I will get the full benefit !

Will keep you'all posted with photos and notes, cheers dp

  3. Cheers Steve, sorry for the delay in replying < Wed night is pool night > I am very interested in uprating the throttle pull, but is 1/4 turn a bit fierce for a road bike ?

I am more interested in running a usable, real world classic than keeping things original, this one is going out in all weathers - like it or not !

I will send you a PM tomorrow re the details etc, thanks dp

  4. Just checked the Beemer throttle action, and that is just over a 1/4 turn.

  5. . Rex’s speed shop can supply updated “Black boxes” for Rita ignitions, it is claimed that they draw a lot less current than the OEM units. Anyone here have any experience of these?

  6. As far as I know (and have in my spare RITA) Rex's RITA Revival Kit is only a new circuit board that replaces all of the old RITA internals in the AMP' box, but you do need to machine the old box internally to fit the new uprated board.

  7. According to the blurb it fits straight in the AB11 case but the AB5 needs to be modified.

For £75 it's probably worth trying but beyond that it's hard to see how spending money on these old systems is worthwhile.

Sachse and Silent Hektik are the digitally processed modern equivalents and would seem worth the investment.

  8. I've RITA's on my '74 250 Desmo and '79 900SS, they're very easy to set up and (So far!) 100% reliable.
Because of their age I bought a spare broken one that came with a Rex Speedshop Revival kit, which I've now fitted.
It's sits on the shelf "Just in case".
I agree with you as to how far things have moved on though, so I recently bought a Sachse system and rev counter for my 900. I'll fit this next time the motor comes apart for a re-fresh, along with my lightweight plain bearing crank and 956cc kit.

  9. If it 'aint broke don't fix it!

Some of the old aftermarket systems just keep on working. I had a Boyer system on a Laverda 750 that worked brilliantly, whereas the factory fitted Bosch systems on the triples were pretty dreadful.

It'd be interesting to hear if the Sachse is an improvement or not. On paper it should be but that's just the theory.

Plain bearing crank sounds good. The Mille would be my first choice bevel twin for that reason alone.
