749 Misfire At Low Revs.

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by bluey, Nov 21, 2015.

  1. so was it back firing then? and clearing when revs rise over 3k, or was it throttle lag

  2. it will only run on the dyno now or pc, sounds like your immobilser has been activated and they are over riding it

  3. There are now codes showing that are consistent with a polarity reversal.

  4. are you working in the workshop on it now?

  5. The immo issue will be because the replacement ECU will be second hand and coded. The one in the link above will do the job. It will be virgin and mapped to suit after I have worked on it.

  6. Really feel for you mate. Sounds a nightmare. Think I would be getting on to trading standards to find out where you stand about now.

Is there not a small independent near you that has a history of older Ducati's you could take it to in a van? Or just work through the issue with the forum in you own garage? You sound clued up enough to take instructions.

  7. No, we found this a couple of weeks back.

  8. That's the plan, I need the bike back first thought so I need to keep the peace. I could have done the work here at home but decided this time to let a 'pro' do it :(

  12. Sorted yet?

  13. Nope! New ECU went to JHS this morning and not heard anything back yet. Instead I am told that despite having my bike for what feels like months they will 'try and squeeze it in before Christmas'. I bet I don't see it again until next year.

  14. Fingers crossed that a new loom and new ecu actually do sort out the original problem ...

  15. And fingers crossed that coincidence doesn't fry another ECU aka fly leads wrong the wrong way aka earth wire not fitted. They said I would have a phone call today, still waiting, not 1730 yet though.

As you can tell I am beginning to lose the plot with the situation. I have been with out my bike since early November and this morning they hint they may not even work on it until the new year.

  18. This is crazy now. He still hasn't even looked at the ECU despite telling me before that the loom has been done in preparation. He won't even give me day or time for when he will start looking at my bike. In short, if any of you use JHS after reading this you are nuts!

  19.

  20. In the end I quoted some consumer law and 'surprise' the next day the bike is ready to collect and as of today it is in my garage safe and sound.

I am pleased to report that whilst moving along the bike feels smooth and responsive, much better than before. I also do not stink of exhaust fumes when I get off the bike :) All good there. Well done Mr. JHS.

However, the bike now stalls at idle much more often than it did before so could I be right in saying that the new ECU that we fitted will also need the CO and TPS set to my machine (dont know why this would have been missed if so)? :( There are also a couple of cable ties that I can immediately see from the riders seat that have been forgotten. Luckily these are both things that I can do at home.

Usually I'd do all my own work here and unfortunately this situation confirms why I do as much as I can. My wallet is VERY light but I do have a new main loom and ECU so the bike is future proofed. For now though I think at would be good to draw a line under this experience and move on ;)
