My Good Old 748 - Suspension Upgrade

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by James Wright, Dec 2, 2015.

  1. Im looking to first improve the front suspension on my Ducati 748 - Showa forks (1997)

Iv'e been looking into getting them refreshed of oil and seals, possibly new fork springs and maybe a piston kit depending on what good they can do. Anything you guys would suggest?

  2. you have a pm mate im breaking a 97 748/853 track bike

  3. U could look at putting a cartridge kit in them for sure, the standard forks are quite old now, that's not to say that they can't be effective but worth upgrading for sure if the budget is there.

I did the forks in my 2010 Daytona, went with a valve kit and oil and springs and was incredible, that already has the more modern cartridge type fork, not sure if the 748 does, so if not then a cartridge kit would surely be a great upgrade.

It's one of those mods that's difficult to justify until u do it, and then ride the bike and then wonder why u didn't before!!

  4. ktech cartridge kit works well in the showas. Add new spring rated for your weight and riding requirements.

  5. Brook suspension done my 99 748 showas 2 years back. they had a special on at the time for a full ktech kit (bout 450.00?) the also anodized the uppers, powdercoated the caliper mounts, diamond like coated the sliders and resprung for my weight. very happy with the results. it did come in at about a grand for all that but they start at about 150 ish for a rebuild and on from there depending on what you want.
First class service and a joy to deal with. worth a call imo...
