Quick question. 2 bikes I am after, both 750's from 91/94. One has twin discs, one single. Is 2 better than 1 on these bikes?
Depends....quite a few of us have raced with 1 and it was sufficient for heavy braking but imo lacked a little feel if trail braking, 2 discs gave that feedback but weigh about 5 kilos disc/caliper/bolts
The twin disc Brembo goldline setup is a very strong stopper even by todays standards. On the road the single disc would be fine, however the twin setup is far more pleasing to the eye. The Twin disc that I have on my 900 ie is a one finger brake at all times.
If the 91 750ss is the dry clutch model buy it! They are like rocking horse shoite! Then convert it to twin disc.
Great, thanks guys. I'm going to view a '98 750ss with 12,000 miles on the clock later this week, so I'll let you know how I get on..
i converted mine from single to twin disc, and the difference was chalk and cheese !!! i use mine for both road and trackday but mainly trackday and i have surprized many a modern race rep in the braking zone, twin setup no question in my humble opinion
Heheh! Just like mine then? Mine doesn't look like the one in the pic though, its a bit, er, modified (and much better). But I still have all the bits to put it back to stock. Twin discs look better than singles, and don't cost that much to upgrade. I think that converting mine cost about £100, and an afternoon's spannering but that was over a decade ago.
