A mate of mine down under is thinking of buying this. Its listed as a 748S but we think its base model? Can anyone confirm. Is it a 748E? I seem to remember some dodgy downgrades on them if it is an E. This is only pic he's got. Thanks guys, Keith.
Hi 900SF I had a 2002 748E and this looks identical. BP and showa front forks. The one downside is the 45mm pipes. the link pipe is different on a 2002 to previous models making a 45-50mm end can option harder.
I would say it is a 748E as well. it has all the standard hallmarks of that model, although it does have Termignoni's which, as mentioned, would be harder to fit as Ducati changed exhaust manufacturers for the latter 748E models. I assume the way around that would be to fit a full earlier system but no doubt someone can positively confirm this.
By the looks of the pic it only has the one position for the steering damper on the frame, indicating it doesn't have the adjustable headstock so a 748E.
It's a 748 'e' if it has standard showa forks and Sachs rear shock and non adjustable steering head, an s model if it has tin coated showas and a Showa rear shock, either way it has 2002 slab sides for sure, mine was a 2001 registered in 2002 and still had vents
I have a 2002 748s and that's not one, but a nice clean looking bike non the less. Agree with all of what has been mentioned before for the differences. As as side note, the cans are not Termignoni. There is a slight curve to the top of the outlet pipes on the picture above. Termi outlets are straight and the rivet on straps on the termi silencers are slotted. A friend of mine had a E and there is no difference in performance. Handling perhaps slightly, but mostly aesthetics. Great little bikes. A picture of my bike, old picture that is.
2002 onwards 748E's use ST4 Belts and not the normall 748 . 916 / 996 belts as they had ST4 / S4RS Cylinder Heads
Also had large head screws holding the fairing panels on instead of dzus (?) fasteners.Built to a lower spec but still a great little bike, and yes they still shag rockers.
Most definitely a MY02 E, wrong wheels, fork tubes and fairing fasteners for the S, it will also not have the fuel tank quick connectors. However apart from that the bike is pretty much the same spec for the MY02 E and S. The engine is the same 97bhp spec on both, contrary to what it says in wicki
