Hi all. I'm commuting daily into London on the M40/A40 which involves a fair amount of slow filtering. I've noticed that the coolant level reaches over 100C in slow traffic, highest being 106C. Is this within normal ranges. Can't find anything in the Owner's Manual. Thanks!
Mine is not a DVT but in similar circumstances, I see the same temperatures. Fan kicks in about 105 and drops to low 90s. I'd only worry if the temp doesn't drop as soon as the fan kicks in. Andy
The electric fans are supposed to cut in at 105 degrees, and bring the temperature down to below 100. Mine sometimes failed to do this, so Snell's traced the fault and fixed it under warranty. Works fine ever since.
Mine also shows a temperature of up to 110c. I don't notice any fan cutting in though. How could I check that it's working. Also, I find that the temperature increases at a slower rate in standing traffic when I'm in neutral.
I spoke to my dealer (Aylesbury) yesterday about the issue. They said running at around 100c isn't an issue. Suggested leaving the bike idling and waiting for the temp to rise above 105 and listening for the fan which apparently is fairly quiet. Temp should then drop down to 100ish. If the fan doesn't kick in its back to the dealer.
Leave the bike on its stand with the engine idling for a few minutes, and keep an eye on the temperature gauge as it heats up. As it reaches 105 degrees or so, the fans should cut in - if you put your hand behind the radiator you should be able to feel a hot draft blowing and hear the whirring - and the temperature should start to fall slowly. If the fans do not cut in, and the temperature climbs higher, you've got a problem.
