999 7x5 Number Plate

  1. Sounds like you had the same problem as quite a few others on here, having to resort to a homemade plate hanger/tail tidy...I went through quite a few bought ones before I fabricated my own....(sorry for the hijack).

  3. I got stopped for having a 7x5 plate. let me off with a warning and told to change it.... he then went on to say 8x6 is ok

    yep, its all to do with typeface sizing and not actual number plate size. Mine has legal typeface and size on a smaller plate, so hardly any border either side of the lettering.

  6. Got a strip plate 9x3 and pulled up in front of an m5 gunship at the lights... Not a thing...

  7. Awaiting the arrival of a US number plate holder for my 999.
    Having a 7.5" x 4" plate made up to my own design to maximize text size. (5x figures).
    We will see how it goes with the local plods !

Being very honest (and this will give some a laugh) - I had a 9x3 strip plate on my hyper and got pulled by a copper on a bicycle....I was weaving through the traffic and he was trying to catch me (I didn't even realize he was) when I got to the front of the traffic he pulled up beside me totally out of breath and leaning against me! - got a caution for that. That was 3 years ago now....

  9. I wish they'd bring back vintage plates for modern bikes. White lettering on a black plate with a red border looks the biz on a Ducati

  11. I rode with one for the best part of 10 years without issues. But come Sept when got stopped by a jobsworth and slapped with £100 fine!

  16. I have gone through two aftermarket thingys already too, luckily I found one cheap second hand and the other thing came with the exhaust. Both were awful, worse than standard.

    I am awaiting a new 7x5 plate and to that I am going to fit a small aftermarket number plate light so I can push the plate tight to my rear lights.

  17. you got a link to that motrax one mate? I know they used to do one for the 999 but don't list it anymore or is it a universal one your going to fit?

  18. I made mine. 2mm ally, hacksaw and files then powder coated..

  19. Last time I got pulled for small plate £60 fine, but think that has now increased to £100.
    No more letterbox style plates for me.
