1200 DVT Changing Rubber

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Steve Ramsay, Jan 7, 2016.

  1. Hi Lads..
Bought my multi second hand about 6 months ago... It came with new Angel GTs on it...
    Never been happy with
vague front end feel and never felt reliable in the wet... So am ditching them for Road 4s...
Rode a mates bike and it was like night and day... Bike turned in held its line... I've had the
GTs on other bikes and they worked well... Wondering if anyone else has had issues as well..
I live in Sydney and riding to Phillip Island for the Island Classic races in a few weeks time..
Will let you know how the new rubber goes...
    Cheers
    Steve

  2. Most folk prefer Michelin Pilot Road 4s these days, apparently, including me.

  3. I got GT's on mine from new and I cant fault them the give me confidence in the wet and the bike feels like it's on rails in the dry. may be you bike needs setting up or there's fundamentally something wrong with it, has it been in an accident before you bought it?

  4. GT'S on mine ,tried the pilots THEY felt vague to me ,
Tyres depend on how you ride ,there is not one ultimate tyre everyone gets on with if you find a good one stick with it.

  6. Hi Steve
Mate I've had 2 sets of Angel GT's and must say I think they are great . I don't notice any vagueness , and in the Wet they are fantastic .
I've ridden to Phillip Island twice on the Mutley from Central QLD . In 2014 we left home in 38 degrees and by time got to Orange in NSW it was 2 degrees and sleeting . Then rode through rain all the way to Mansfield Vic and not once did the Angels give me a scare .
My wife has PR 4s on her vfr800 and loves them . From the couple of times she let me ride the vfr I think the PR 4s certainly give a more compliant ride than the oem Dunlops that were on it .
With that said I guess it depends on how you ride ?
Also pressures do make a lot of difference ?
Have a great trip to the Supers mate , I can't go , but will be at the GP in October [emoji469][emoji469][emoji469]
    Cheers
    Dave

  7. I'm using Z8 from Metzeler. Intended to use ContiRoadAttack 2 Evo, but out of stock in Spain when I had to change them.
PR4 in my area get destroyed in 2000 km and present a lot of "waves" on its surface...
Some say it's because I drive too fast in the curves and I throttle too early, but...

  8. Thanks for the replys... Swapped the rubber and as fate would have it.... It was pissing down in Sydney this week... So first ride was in the wet... I immediately noticed the steering was quicker and bike seems to hold its line very well... was not being stupid and maybe overly careful to begin with but after 20mins I felt totally at home... wet weather and all...so initial response is positive... Was riding in touring mode with 1 bag... also tweaked the preload as I felt it too soft... Is now on 14...
Leave for Phillip Island next Thursday... looking forward to a good ride.

  9. Update . .
Rode to Phillip Island for the Island Classic last week . .
got rain, rain, then some more rain . .
Rode through the Snowy Mountains and over some average roads and the PR4s were pretty amazing in very dangerous conditions, mountain roads had that shiny look that would normally mean ride with caution, and while were not going gangbusters, the pace was good and the bike never gave me a reason to think I'm losing the front or rear . . did 2600 ks in 4 days on all roads and conditions . . and tons more rain coming back to Sydney, just to welcome me back . . The racing was brilliant, bikes just amazing, now looking forward to the Barry Sheen festival of Speed in March . . bugger the superbikes and moto gp . . . this old school racing is the bomb . . . another big plus . . . the coppers keep away, gotta love that.
