That's it for now as my tax has expired and they've just started to grit the roads around Essex so it's back into the garage, battery off, fairings off and a quick greese up and finally a levels check but what's this in the oil window ?? Can't seem to get to the inside of the glass to wipe it away so how do I check my oil levels ?? Looks to me like someone has added mayonnaise to my oil when my back was turned so own up. Who was it ?? (Any ideas to what it is or how to remove it) Ta.
Moisture caused by condensation. I've got rid of it by putting a halogen reading light an inch from the glass overnight. Ive read on here to get the engine hot and let it cool with the oil filler cap out.
The breather system should vent any moisture without the need to take off the filler cap and vent to atmosphere. Id double check that the breather is not blocked or narrowed with goo.
It very common, mine always does it in the winter... the breather system is not enough... Because I used to commute a lot on mine, not any more, I used to get home and take the oil cap out and that did the trick, sometimes takes a few times to clear completely.
The moisture evaporates thru the breather, but especially on the 749/999 the pipe to the airbox is quite long before it reaches the separator tank. The condense then runs back the valve and into the crankcase. Removing the filler cap works, but you can disconnect the hose from the breather while the motor is running. Let it get hot and let it vent.
