  1. hi all
my ducati 1098s engine has decided to give up so ive removed the motor to sort out why
in the mean time my friend bought a 1200 multistrada engine for his 996 project which is at a standstill now
so being a good friend he said to put into mine till whenever i get mine done.
what i want to know is what else will i need to use the mutistrada engine in my 1098s,,,,
    loom
    clocks etc etc etc...
    can any one advise me

  2. As its a Multistrada engine I suggest you'd need an AA or RAC card.

  3. lol please can any one help me

  4. If you can fit the 1098 throttle bodies to the MTS1200 I'd suggest you use the 1098 ECU and electrics and get the ECU re-mapped to suit the MTS engine.
If to have to use the MTS throttle bodies, it will also require the wiring loom, ECU, MAP sensors and dash from the MTS and probably a few other bits. Ideally the complete airbox throttle body assembly if it can be fitted in.

  5. thank you derek
appreciate the help wondered if any one had done this before

  6. Dont forget to give me your old engine.:grinning:

  7. hi all here is my update,,,,,,,,
well I fitted the multistrada engine and all was going well . I fitted the original 1098 inlet rubbers so the 1098 throttle boddies fit.
    couple of issues though
1, the coil sticks of the 1098 do not fit so am I right in exchanging them for the original coils of the multi ???
the coil sticks have 3 wires wer the multi coils has only 2..(any advise ??)
2, the neutral switch on the rear of the engine are difrent . the 1098 has 1 wire but the multi has 2 (any advise ??)
3, the exhaust flanges are slightly smaller on the 1098 so they wont fit on to the 1198 barells
4, oil cooler inlet/outlet are different between the 2 casings
I will post photos very soon

  8. I built some conversion cables for @Nelson for his 996/multi engine project bike. It converted the 3 wire coil to 2 wire coil. When installed the bike kept throwing coil errors on the dash. In the end he used the original stick coils with the ignition leads from the multi pushed into the end. Not elegant but it worked and no more errors.

  9. Here's what @Nelson did using 1098 coils and Multistrada plug leads

  10. hi chrisw
appreciate your reply there is no picture im really wanting to see how you did it

  11. as you are aware the coil caps do not fit in to the multistrada

  12. ahhh right thanks chris
do you have any advise on the neutral switch

  13. Think you just need to run one wire to earth

  14. as im using original 1098 wiring loom
there is 3 coming of the the multi neutral switch ,,,so will it just be one of the 3
    many thanks

  15. Your original post said 2. With 3 I would need to look at the wiring diagram.

  16. Does the multi use a gear indicator? Hence the 3 wires for a potentiometer.

  17. sorry I do apologise
the multi has 3 wires for neutral switch and the 1098 only has one,,,
is there any other problems I may come across on start up ???
    any error codes etc ??
    will I need a re-map

  18. You need to swap notes with Nelson

  19. how do I get in touch with him
appreciate the advise you have give me
