848 Pirelli Diablo Superbike Slicks (sc1 Or Sc2?)

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by gcon45, Jan 23, 2016.

  1. Am looking at dry track day tyres for the season ahead for my 848.

Just wondering if any of you run Diablo Superbikes and if so, what combination of the SC1 or SC2 compounds does the 848 suit best in warm conditions?

I know that in general the 600s usually prefer one combination and 1000s another but with the 848 being in between (and with a narrower rear) I haven't read much info on what the optimum combination is.

My gut feeling is SC1 front and SC2 rear.

Also, has anyone ran a 190 rear on the standard wheel as opposed to the standard 180?

  2. Not that many people on this forum appear to ride slicks on track days. Most of the information contained in historical threads is about treaded tyres. I use the Metzeler Racetech Interact K0, K1 and K2 which are/were the British Super Stock 1000cc control tyre. The Pirelli Supercorsa SC and SP are also commonly used as are the Dunlop D211/D212. Tyres tend to be a very personal thing and people stick to what they like. A 190 section tyre will run on a 5.5" wheel and again some favour it and some don't. I run a 190 rear on a 6" width rim in the dry and a 180 rear on a 5.5" width rim in the wet. Andy

  3. For the UK you cant go too far wrong with 1 front and 2 rear, unless its above 20 deg which may work better with the softer rear and harder front (2/1 respectively)

A 0 can be destroyed in a couple of sessions when too cold, same with a 1

  4. Cheers for the responses.
I have ran Supercorsas on previous track bikes and loved them but thought that seeing as I can swap my own tyres over (we run a tyre fitting motor factor) and that I'll only be doing dry / warm track days - why not go for full fat slicks?

Surely they'll perform better than any treaded option in the dry as long as they're heated appropriately?

  5. Pretty sure compound isnt massively different, and at lease with SC you can do a damp/cold/drying track. Cant do that on slicks!

But those pirelli slicks are good enough to manage 170 hp and early and haRd throttle without traction control or drama.

  6. And as long as you can keep heat in them. Although some modern slicks seem to be more forgiving, you still need to keep the temperature up. If you are top third in the advanced group, yes go for it but if you are not I wouldn't bother. Sticky treaded tyres will deliver all the thrills you want. Andy

  8. Hi
Are you meaning the Superbike Pro trackday slicks or the SC1 SC2 version?
I have been using the trackday slick as opposed to the specific compound version all last season
I have found them mega durable getting about 7 trackdays out of a set (!)
In contrast an SC2 rear supercorsa pro would last me 2 trackdays max
They do move a little but progressively so
My mate on a 1098 uses them and says they move for him but he has much more torque than I do
They have excellent grip though not as sticky as a supercorsa pro - I would say very similar to the grip on my Pirelli BSB compound on the 1198
They heat up very fast - are designed to not use warmers - I do but it helps when held in the line and they cool off
I like them and consider them a very good compromise if not the grippiest thing out there
I run at fast inters maybe back third fast group on a gsxr750
